What will I be doing?

Securing our position as the trusted and known brand, famous for powering human progress with clean affordable energy for everyone.  We want to be at the centre of a consumer-led energy transition where we help reduce the carbon footprint of Britain’s homes in an affordable and inclusive way.  Building trust will be key to creating that partnership with consumers.

You will report directly to the Chief Commercial Officer and will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing and monitoring the overall brand building strategy. 

This new role is responsible for all brand building activities.  We need a connected story right the way through from the creative we put out on mass media channels...through to how the brand comes to life when our engineers visit more than 3000 homes every single day.  

The OVO brand is critical to the future of our company and will, in time, need to take over from other brands (like SSE) that have been brought in through acquisition.  In this role you will be responsible for all the brand and brand marketing activities for all brands in the OVO Group portfolio.

The role requires an experienced senior leader, with the commercial acumen, skills and confidence to lead in a complex organisation; who can deliver transformation and improved outcomes and experiences for our current and future customers. 

Your role is critical and highly visible both internally and externally. 

  

Key Responsibilities

  • Devise a brand portfolio strategy which makes the most of the evolving house of brands operated by the OVO Group 
  • Drive exponential growth in Brand Marketing activity, scaling up capabilities and driving outsized impact.
  • Build awareness of the OVO brand and ensure all communications align and support the growth of our brand.
  • Identify areas of innovation, be future thinking with digitally led, market disruptive ideas.
  • Get the most out of a group of ~100 direct team members and an evolving agency roster 
  • Regularly direct the delivery of projects through active sponsorship, leadership and involvement in specific initiatives to ensure they meet time, cost and quality requirements.
  • Prepare business reviews and create compelling storyboards, tools, and processes to ensure your team has the necessary information readily available to explain its performance and how that links to our results.
  • Drive weekly, monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc action planning sessions to ensure alignment in strategic objectives.
  • Provide brand positioning recommendations with validation grounded in consumer insight and micro and macro market trends. 
  • Help define disruptive and progressive content that delivers on our brand strategy and ambitions
  • Create a media plan which optimises ROI on a multi-year horizon
  • Build, inspire and lead the Brand Marketing team to include:
    • Brand and portfolio Strategy
    • Creative
    • Media
    • Creative Studio
    • Consumer PR 
    • Social 
    • Partnerships
    • Research and measurement

Do I have what it takes?

Essential skills and experience:

  • You will have a track record of building high performing brands 
  • You will be an excellent storyteller and able to lead in-house and agency creatives to communicate messages
  • You will understand the UK market and the innovative opportunities to speak to UK consumers
  • You will be comfortable with data and ways of measuring brand building activities.  At OVO we believe that brand building is both art and science.
  • You are adaptable and creative to recognize the value of innovation and be willing to take the risks to facilitate it.
  • You will be able to assess, plan and actively manage multiple teams.
  • You will  inspire, motivate and influence others across the organisation.
  • You will collaborate, communicate and present to all levels of the organisation and have a strong command over language both written and verbal.
  • An exceptional team player with a high level of integrity, honesty, humility and work ethic.
  • You will thrive in fast paced, complex organisations, setting clear direction for your team that cuts through noise and delivers results 

 

Ideally you will have…

  • Owned, developed and accelerated brand performance in a disruptive or challenger brand
  • Acquired skills and experience in a progressive brand and customer centric company.
  • Experience building, shaping, leading and growing a high performance Brand Marketing team 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
