About Span

Founded by Tesla’s former head of energy products, Span created a smartphone-enabled electric panel. It is beautiful to look at, it is built to last, it has onboard intelligence and it can interact with every single circuit in your home, which includes your electric car, solar panels and home battery. We think Span can fundamentally upgrade our homes, improve our lives and help us bridge to a clean energy future. Read the story behind Span to learn more.

What you will own

As Mobile Product Manager, you will own Span’s mobile-native, cross-platform apps - Span Home and Span Installer. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role with opportunities to grow your team, hone your craft and do your life’s best work.

Span Home is the app homeowners use to interact and control their panel. It is meant to offer not just transactional value, but also to educate, engage, inspire and ultimately drive positive behaviors across the household. Span Installer is the app install technicians use to commission and set up the Span panel. We want to put a panel in every home and for that, we need the installation experience to be simple, quick, reliable and require as little training as possible. Span Installer is a key enabler of that outcome

We’re looking for a product manager who can..

  • Think critically. You can develop and defend your point of view in the face of ambiguity and imperfect information. You can influence without authority.
  • Inquire expertly. You ask high quality questions to uncover the problem-to-solve. You can separate the stated wants from the inferred needs. You think from the point of view of the humans we’re trying to solve problems for.
  • Communicate effectively. You can do a killer demo. You can explain a product idea and its value proposition in a manner that resonates with your audience. Your vocabulary adapts to the stakeholders you engage with - product, design, engineering, executive team, legal, operations, sales, finance and everyone in between.
  • Work collaboratively. You like working with people. People like working with you. You like being the connective tissue between teams. You don’t think of project management as a chore but necessary for product success.
  • Understand technically. You are not afraid to become intricately familiar with our product and back-end platform. You want to know enough about the architecture, the business rules and technology stack to be dangerous.
  • Serve gladly. You are eager to become the go-to person. You are an active listener. You like fielding questions, resolving issues and generally being in service to others.

Responsibilities

  1. Discovery: Manage non-linear and rapid cycles with internal teams, customers and partners to gain a solid understanding of the problems-to-solve.
  2. Design: Build up to solutions with an eye on scalability, speed-to-market and reusability. Present and articulate design decisions, concepts and trade-offs verbally, visually, or through rapid prototypes.
  3. Delivery: Act as product owner - defining stories and acceptance criteria, managing the backlog, running scrum ceremonies with upto 2 engineering teams, facilitating UATs and overseeing QA.
  4. Go To Market: Support frontline teams to ensure they are equipped to rollout, sell, train and support our software products.
  5. Learning & Iteration: Monitor product usage and derive actionable insights to inform new feature development, improve feature usage and engagement. Design and run A/B and multivariate experiments to test hypotheses.

Experience we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of experience in product manager and product owner capacities
  • Demonstrable record of shipping consumer-facing mobile apps that delivered business value and customer satisfaction
  • Fluency with UX/UI design principles and hands-on prototyping with tools like Balsamiq and Figma
  • Experience in distributed energy, smart grid or IoT a plus
  • Experience with hardware/software products a plus
