Job Description

Here at Modern Meadow, we are harnessing the power of design, biology, and engineering to produce biofabricated materials. Applying the latest tools of biotechnology, we are creating a new type of materials company. As we continue to grow, we are seeking to hire a Marketing Director within our MM Beauty business unit.  

Modern Meadow Beauty (MMB) is the newly created unit of Modern Meadow dedicated to Beauty ingredients, with a goal to biotransform the world of care. Relying on the disruptive technologies developed by Modern Meadow, our ambition is to bring novel protein-based ingredients to beauty brands worldwide.  

Reporting into the General Manager of MMB, this position will play a leading role to drive profitable growth for Modern Meadow by identifying and leading actionable marketing and communication levers on the market. Starting with consumer, customers and competition insights, the Marketing Director will build a list of market opportunities that will eventually translate into an innovation pipeline, in coordination with R&D. This individual will be in charge of the overall Marketing, Digital and Communication strategy and implementation for the B2B (ingredients) market and the coordination of internal and external resources according to the MMB business plans strategy, vision, and goals. 

Responsibilities:

  • As part of the overall MMB Strategy, (co-)develop and/or implement a Go-to-Market (Marketing) Strategy including market data, customer segmentation, competition mapping, value proposition, competitive advantage and together with the General Manager 
  • Manage/oversee and coordinate with the other relevant Modern Meadow/ MMB team members and support functions for all (Marketing & Communication) PC related Communications including but not limited to press releases, articles, advertising, social networks, trade Shows, customer seminars, etc. 
  • Define and coordinate all operational marketing activities: customer analysis/recommendations (brands, positioning) and meetings, Marketing tools (brochures, presentations, digital), formulation kits and concept together with R&D and sales 
  • Research, identify and operationalize trends for new product (market needs) briefings and customer presentation/dialog 
  • Manage all market intelligence activities (personal care market, customers, competition, brands, products, innovations) in order to provide data and analysis to the relevant PC team members as well as well as upper management upon request (i.e.; potential M&A activities) 
  • Identify market, customers and consumer needs/trends in order to make proactive proposals of new products/services/innovation briefs for R&D  
  • Identify potential external partnership together with R&D 
  • Together with R&D, follow-up on the innovation stage-gate process and launch products on the market following a defined marketing plan 
  • Interact directly with key Customers to exchange on trends, macro-Needs and strategies as well as presenting/discussing MMI Strategy when relevant 
  • Management of overall MMI marketing budget including proposals, travel, communication, people etc.  
  • Define and lead the MMI marketing organization to attract, recruit, train/on-board, coach and retain talent 
  • Establish the overall workforce planning and strategy for the organization and ensuring business objectives are achieved and sustained through effective people and people management practices 

Requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Marketing and/or Technical background (MBA a plus) 
  • Minimum 5-7 years of Marketing Management experience, including experience in the personal care industry 
  • International experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders  
  • Strong analytical skills and technology development skills  
  • Experience with cross-functional and multi-cultural teams  
  • Ability to translate industry/ market and technology trends into new opportunities and solutions  
  • Ability to effectively communicate & partner with customers and internal stakeholders 
  • Solutions focused mindset 
  • Good interpersonal skills 
  • Adaptable and broad perspective 
  • Persuasive and ability to deal with ambiguity 
  • Fluency in English 
  • Ability to travel/work out of MM HQ in Nutley, NJ and Paris, France as needed
