Job Description

Lead GFI’s Research Grant Program to advance alternative protein science

The Good Food Institute (GFI) is at the forefront of the movement to use food technology and markets to solve some of the world’s biggest problems, from climate change and global hunger to antibiotic resistance and the exploitation of animals.

How You Will Make a Difference

In this role, you will have the opportunity to catalyze the frontier of alternative protein science by administering GFI’s Research Grant Program. Under the direction of the Associate Director of SciTech - Funding, the Research Grants Associate will support every stage of the grants life cycle, with a primary responsibility for coordinating pre-award activities. The Research Grants Associate will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with GFI’s research funding team to execute, evaluate, and refine strategic grants management processes to meet the needs of GFI as well as the needs of grant applicants and awardees.
  • Maintaining the integrity of GFI’s Research Grant Program by ensuring data is complete, accurate, and up-to-date.
  • Drafting and promoting Requests for Proposals (RFPs), including serving as the primary point of contact for prospective applicants.
  • Managing the grant review process by assigning proposals to reviewers, coordinating with reviewers to receive completed evaluations by the due date, and summarizing reviewers’ evaluations.
  • Partnering with GFI’s Legal and Finance teams to secure research agreements from grantees and award grant funds.
  • Preparing monthly and ad hoc reports of grant-related information as requested by program staff.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Who We’re Looking For

The Research Grants Associate must have:

  • At least three years of experience working for a grant funding program (not just applying for grants or managing grants that have been received).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage annual budgets of at least $5 million.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to organize, summarize, and maintain numerical data and verbal information.
  • Familiarity with best practices in grant-making and legal compliance.
  • The ability to professionally communicate verbally and in writing with scientists, grant program administrators, university officials, and other audiences from around the world.
  • A scientific background or willingness to learn the general scientific principles of alternative proteins.
  • Comfort working remotely and in a rapidly growing and evolving organization.
  • Strong support for GFI’s philosophy and mission; demonstrated interest in public health, environmentalism, animal protection, or hunger relief.

We want the best people and we don’t want biases holding us back. We strongly encourage people of every color, orientation, age, gender, origin, and ability to apply. Because we value a diverse workplace, we prioritize an inclusive climate absent of discrimination and harassment during the application process and after you join the team.
