The Role 

As the leader of Manufacturing and Supply Chain you will work with our engineering teams to create and implement a strategy for all sourcing and manufacturing efforts to bring Span’s unique technology, a smart electrical panel, to market. You will use your experience to build and leverage strong working relationships with suppliers and manufacturing partners. You will make educated decisions on where and how to source components to increase quality, scale, supply assurance, and flexibility while decreasing cost of goods sold(COGs). You will be pragmatic about tradeoffs between short term and long term company objectives. You will work closely with Span’s internal design team to provide feedback that can improve the product and its components ability to be manufactured at scale with high yield. You will lead the effort to scale up Span’s manufacturing process drawing on your prior experience to help us ramp quickly and smoothly to meet the growing demand for Span’s products.  In this role you will be reporting to the CEO.

You will have interest and experience in market dynamics, negotiation and pricing, manufacturing processes, and risk mitigation. You'll be a self-starter and eager to build a supply chain that currently has evolving formal processes into a high-functioning, process-oriented end-to-end system.

 

In this role, you will:

  • You will be responsible for supply strategy, including sourcing major mechanical and electrical components.

  • Develop and implement a production plan.

  • Develop team organizational structure, communicate vision, set direction, as well as inspire, motivate, and mentor the team.

  • Establish vendor relationships and negotiate supply agreements.

  • Understand the trade-offs between cost, volume, and quality.

  • Collaborate across the Span’s organization to ensure business objectives are met, including the ability to rapidly synthesize and communicate findings and to actively identify potential supply issues and solutions.

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of value-added manufacturing processes and costs, reverse logistics, and market intelligence, and apply this knowledge to influence Span’s supply chain strategy and product improvements.

  • Work with suppliers across Asia & North America.

  • Work with Span’s sales and deployment teams to set up and optimize the manufacturing and distribution of Span’s Products.

  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements and ethical standards related to procurement

About You 

Required Qualifications

We are seeking a VP of Manufacturing and Supply Chain who has:

  • 12+ years of experience building and leading manufacturing and supply chain teams

  • BS or MS in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering

  • Demonstrated manufacturing management experience

  • Experience with sourcing components, PCBAs, wire harnesses, terminal blocks as well as components made from sheet metal or injection molded plastics

  • Managed supplier relationships and process development schedules domestic and internationally

  • Strategic thinker who enjoys solving complex problems.

  • Take a hands-on approach whether it be building a prototype or performing testing

  • Made decisions between using electronics manufacturing service (EMS) providers, electronic contract manufacturer (ECM), and in house manufacturing teams.



Bonus Qualifications

We would love to hire someone who has:

  • A proven track record of working on complex electro-mechanical design simulations and analysis

  • Experience working with the consumer electronics or solar / battery storage products

  • Knowledge of national and international safety and regulatory requirements such as UL, IEC, and ISO.

  • Experience working with products that connect to the electrical grid

  • You have worked in a high growth fast-paced start-up environment

  • Experience with sourcing glass and/or power relays
