Job Description

Terrafuse is building AI technology that accelerates physical models of climate and weather risk by orders of magnitude from hours on a supercomputer to seconds in the cloud. Our technology combines our academic expertise in climate science and machine learning, developed from our work at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and supported by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Defense, and Microsoft AI for Earth. Our vision is to develop a Queryable Earth in which cloud-native Earth observation and climate data are combined with AI to produce actionable insights into climate risk and energy resources.

Our starting points are wildfire and wind. Extreme wildfire conditions have increased by 50% in the last few decades as a result of climate change and insurance companies are now refusing to insure homes and businesses in California, making it impossible for nearly 1M homeowners and businesses to get coverage for their properties. By combining our deep expertise in climate science and deep learning, we have developed a wildfire risk product that solves the problem that homeowners face by accurately quantifying risk property by property, again making it possible for homeowners to get coverage for their safety and livelihoods. Concurrently we are developing a wind product to optimize global wind energy production, which is growing 20% year over year as the world transitions to a clean energy economy. Our customers include corporate and government players in the insurance, aviation, and clean energy industries.

One reason that companies are making climate change a strategic priority is that adverse weather events can and increasingly will wreak havoc on business’ core operations: disrupting supply chains, forcing mass evacuations due to wildfires, flooding facilities near coasts, halting outdoor activity due to extreme heat, making certain regions less habitable.

Terrafuse has developed the most advanced climate and weather risk prediction solution on the market. By leveraging deep expertise and pioneering research in physics-enabled machine learning, Terrafuse more accurately predicts weather variables including but not limited to wildfire, local climate (wind, precipitation), and hydroclimate, 1000x faster, 100x more cheaply, and with a 10x faster development time than any other product on the market.

 What you will be doing

Reporting directly to the CEO and collaborating with executive leadership and go-to partners to develop and execute strategic business development initiatives such as:

  • Creating go-to-market campaigns
  • Building qualified prospect revenue funnel
  • Creating and presenting RFPs and RFIs
  • Closing and acquiring new clients
  • Develop best practices and tools to streamline the sales and onboarding process.  
  • Creating accurate forecasting reports
  • Building repeatable and scalable revenue generating processes
  • Developing and fostering C-level decision-maker relationships with prospects and clients
  • Developing strategic alliances and partnership to build-out a channel presence.

An experienced B2B SaaS Business Development professional who specializes in Insurance industry technology solutions.  A business leader with a successful history of collaborating with executive leaders to develop and execute strategic business development initiatives.   A top performer with a proven track record of exceeding goals, quotas, and expectations.  And an entrepreneur who wants to get in on-the-ground-floor of a fast-growing cutting-edge AI startup and be part of building something special to help humanity.

  • Bachelor’s degree, MBA preferred
  • 7 years of successful B2B SaaS business development experience
  • Experience selling to Enterprise Insurance organizations
  • Track record of exceeding business goals, quotas, and expectation
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and desire to build something special
  • C-level selling experience and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player attitude with the ability to work independently
  • Multi-tasker who can wear many hats and still deliver on goals and expectations
  • Highly organized skill set including prioritization, scheduling, and time management
  • Relationship builder and excellent storyteller
  • Confident about abilities yet humble in the workplace

Nice to have

  • Early-stage or startup company business development experience
  • Experience selling products with machine learning models at the core
  • Experience selling analytics products to (re)insurance companies strongly preferred
  • Strong eye for design
  • Passion for solving/addressing climate change
