Job Description

We’re an international agtech startup pioneering an ambitious mission in a budding industry where agriculture meets technology. Through the use of data-driven insights, natural microbiology, and innovative digital technologies, Indigo Ag helps farmers make farming more sustainable to combat climate change and protect the environment. Our grain, carbon, and transportation marketplaces enable farmers to profit from those sustainable choices.

Our mission is unique, and therefore our teams are too: from multigenerational farming gurus who understand the land as though it were an extension of themselves, to cutting-edge techies on the frontier of innovation, our teams are a reflection of the range of the stakeholders we serve: the Earth, the Farmer, and the Consumer. Indigo is extraordinary, and we owe that to the individuals who make up our community and enable success through diversity of thought, experience, background, perspective, race, sexuality, gender, age, and everything else that makes a person uniquely themselves. Connected by a common vision and empowered by diversity, we aren’t ordinary, and neither are you. Embrace your extraordinary and join Indigo in cultivating a healthier planet fueled by unique game changers.

The Role

The specific mission of Indigo Carbon is to facilitate removing Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere through helping farmers transition to “regenerative” practices, which have been shown to draw carbon from the air into the soil (this is often called Carbon Farming)

In order to do this cost effectively we need a lot of data about how the farms in our program operate, from which we can then make inferences about Carbon. Basically we are using Software Engineering to fight Climate Change.

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Data Collection Team, which builds the platform and tools to enable us to gather the data in a way that is effective and a good experience for our farmer customers.

As a Sr. Engineering Manager at Indigo you will

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, UX designers, data scientists and other Engineers to drive our product forward
  • Brainstorm features with product managers, UX designers, and Senior Engineers on your team based on your knowledge of the codebase
  • Expertly review code
  • Mentor and coach other engineers
  • Drive technical planning and optimize processes within your team
You might be a good fit if you:
  • Have successfully run one or more engineering teams from architecture through release, maintenance, and support
  • Are self-directed and enjoy building server-side & client side applications, as well as figuring out the most important problem to work on
  • Own problems end-to-end, and are willing to pick up whatever knowledge you're missing to get the job done
  • Are detail-oriented, and like to get the system working but know when to cut corners versus getting it exactly right
  • Are interested in coaching, mentoring, and serving a team of engineers
  • Enjoy collaborating across multiple disciplines, including product, design, and data science
  • Know how to communicate in a remote-first environment
  • Have worked with modern web technologies. We use Python (Flask) on the backend & Typescript/Reach on the frontend, but other experience is certainly acceptable.
  • Believe in the model of servant leadership and extreme ownership
  • You are passionate about creating a good user experiences
