THE ROLE

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The primary aim of this role is to define a new industry benchmark for reliability and durability of electrical light vehicles. People will tell you that 'this can't be done' so you will need to demonstrate your perseverance and engineering creativity on daily base. This role is very hands-on and truly end2end, ranging from ideation, conceptualisation and prototyping new designs through to the detailed engineering and implementation in manufacturing. This is an exciting opportunity on the forefront of electrical light vehicle design in the electro-mobility space and you will play a key role in us becoming the leading global provider of sustainable cargo and last mile delivery solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Formulate vehicle and component requirements to highest requirements engineering standards
  • Review OTS vehicle components with regards to durability and reliability
  • Plan and perform stress testing on vehicles and vehicle components including documentation
  • Liaise with suppliers to improve existing components or develop new components
  • Ideate, conceptualise, design and test prototypes of vehicles and vehicle components
  • Create detailed engineering designs including engineering calculations
  • Work cross-functional and liaise with manufacturing partners and suppliers
  • Interpret regulatory standards, understand implications on vehicle design and design accordingly
  • Apply best development practices such as design reviews, risk analysis and critical thinking

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate who is experienced with designing of mechanical systems with focus on reliability and durability, ideally in the automotive, motorcycle or mining industry. This role requires someone who can work with minimum supervision and who feels comfortable in a dynamic and fast-paced start-up environment.

  • 5-7 yrs experience as Mechanical Design Engineer with hands-on CAD experience
  • Relevant degree (e.g. Mechanical Engineer, Mechatronics)
  • Experience with writing technical requirements
  • Experience in designing and integrating mechanical and mechatronics systems
  • Experience with engineering calculations, simulations and risks analysis skills
  • Experiences with regulatory standards and design for compliance
  • Basic experience in technical project management
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply prototyping techniques
  • Computer skills: CAD software (preferably Solidworks)
