Job Description

Terraformation is hiring Business Development Managers around the world for commercial partnerships with foresters, land owners/managers, financiers, local residents, regulators and other key stakeholders in global afforestation projects. Terraformation’s overall mission is to grow forests on 3 billion acres of land.  Business Development plays a critical role in support of that mission by:
Aligning interests of forest stakeholders to enable Terraformation and our partners to grow forests on 3B acres of land in the next 10 years.
These roles will be globally distributed which means team members will typically be the first or only representative of Terraformation in a given region of the world.  As such, the role combines hands-on execution with sound strategic decision-making and has future potential for recruiting and managing multiple sub-teams.  


Responsibilities

  • Source and close land-use or land-purchase agreements 
  • Lead commercial discussions with financial partners, legal counsel, and land owners/managers to align interests and develop enforceable contracts for global forestry projects
  • Source and close new revenue opportunities for Terraformation projects 
  • Source and close new strategic business opportunities and partnerships for Terraformation
  • Represent Terraformation in discussions related to 3rd party land, finances, and revenue opportunities
  • Represent Terraformation in discussions with regional partners and governments
  • Represent Terraformation in discussions with other regional forest industry participants
  • Collaborate with PR and Communications to plan and execute Terraformation appearances at regional events and conferences
  • Scale up business development efforts within a target region of the world

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of Business Development of commercial partnerships experience
  • Experience with executing land-use and land management contracts
  • Demonstrated success in sourcing, negotiating, and closing, $5M+ long-term partnerships
  • Prior experience working with cross functional marketing, PR, sales, legal, finance partnerships teams
  • Fluent in Spanish

Ideal Qualifications

  • Experience working with global land conservation entities
  • Experience working with ultra high net worth individuals and families as grantors, donors, and/or investors
  • Experience working with commercial debt, investment banks, structured finance, and/or special purpose vehicles
  • Experience working with forestry projects
  • Experience working with production and sale of verifiable carbon credits 
  • Portuguese preferred but not required
