Senior Product Designer at Earthshot Labs

Earthshot Labs is seeking a talented and passionate Senior Product Designer for web-based LandOS and our Biome mobile app. 

Earthshot is an open-source community using technology to scale nature-based climate mitigation. We have a community of 1000+ data scientists, domain experts, and software engineers working on technical research questions in conservation, land use planning, carbon sequestration, and water restoration. We productize our research through the LandOS platform, and are currently building a suite of software tools for policy makers, landowners, and investors to make regenerative decision to help solve the climate and ecological crisis.

Biome: Biome seeks to merge modern mobile location based gameplay with citizen science in order to engage large numbers of people worldwide to gather nature data that’s needed for ecological research and nature restoration verification. This app would be the first of its kind and represents a unique fusion between modern mobile gameplay and valuable nature observations using the full capabilities of the smartphone. As the first full-time designer on this project, you will help form a highly entrepreneurial and expert team that is looking to put in place the world’s leading platform for gathering nature data in the field.

Our ideal candidate is a seasoned user experience and interaction designer with previous experience developing highly successful Unity mobile games, focused on building beautiful, high performing and engaging games. You also ideally know how to lead other designers and help put in place a design driven product development culture. We have some part-time volunteer designers who have been helping us design the app so far and we would be looking for you to provide leadership and guidance to them. You should enjoy working with other cross functional team members such as product managers, software engineers, and of course interfacing directly with end users in order to design the best possible product.

We are looking for people who are passionate about restoring global ecology, and who exhibit extreme ownership, clear communication, a strong sense of craftsmanship, and the desire to create lasting work and work relationships.

We are a 100% remote workforce. Once in a while we bring the team together in incredible places in nature to build deeper intimacy between team members and establish coherence, shared values, and common vision.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, UX, or related fields, or equivalent training work experience
• 3-7 years of significant experience focused on unified UI and UX design for mobile and browser apps
• Extensive product design portfolio, examples showing project development from concept to completion, showcasing creative thought, user-centric approach, awareness of technology and design craftsmanship.
• Experience beautiful designing game or game-like mobile experiences
• Extensive expertise in a broad range of UX skills, including interaction design, visual design, branding, UX research, and more
• Ability to design at all stages of product development while integrating ongoing user research, building from concept and rough sketches to clickable prototypes to the polished final user-facing product, and ensuring continued evolution post-launch
• Good knowledge of Adobe Cloud Suite, Sketch, Figma, and other related technologies
• Highly skilled in creating sketches, wireframes, high fidelity comps, prototypes, and written documentation, using modern design and prototyping tools

• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills to articulately express the rationale behind design decisions
• Collaborate with other design leads to ensure consistency and coherence across Earthshot Labs products
• Promote a culture of innovation, teamwork and inclusivity

Pluses

• Experience designing AR or VR applications
• Experience designing ecologically themed applications
• Experience designing web apps
• Familiarity with Unity or other game engines
• Coding experience
