You are a detailed technical leader and an effective people manager. You will direct a team to critically examine data, interpret results, and set process specifications for manufacturing. As a technical contributor and manager, you’re passionate about clean technology and are excited to be a key contributor to set the standard for the next generation of Li-ion batteries.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 

  • Coordinate and execute cross-functionally with Process, Manufacturing, & Quality teams, to define process specification limits and process capability indices (Cpk).
  • Determine optimal yield and throughput targets in coordination with Finance, Manufacturing and Business Development teams.
  • Working knowledge of analytical techniques such as Brunauer, Emmett, & Teller (BET) surface analyzers, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), particle size analysis (PSA), particle size distribution (PSD), and gas chromatography (GC) to characterize materials and products used in lithium ion batteries.
  • Collaborate closely with the Process Development team to establish baseline performance metrics and identify the key levers to drive optimal process reliability, quality and uptime.
  • Provide direction and leadership for analytical instrumentation and methods that add value to Sila’s characterization needs.
  • Hire, mentor, and support talent through consistent feedback, navigation of challenges, and celebration of wins

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in Engineering or related science field with 5+ years of relevant (integration, semiconductor, energy) industrial manufacturing experience
  • Technical and personnel management experience: 3+ years of demonstrated capability
  • Proficient in experimental design (DOE), for screening, linear model development, and response surface optimization.
  • Proficient in six sigma (DMAIC) concepts, statistical process control (SPC) and 8D methodologies.
  • Knowledgeable, curious, and low ego while being an incisive and clear communicator. Easy rapport, genuine emotional intelligence, and durable composure.
  • Tech-Savvy: able to move quickly between different physical tools, databases, data processing software and operating systems to effectively generate and share insights
  • Collaboratively solves problems and sets others up for success

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a laptop, copier/printer machine, etc.
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection.
  • Repetitive use of hands - light to forceful handling of material.
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
  • Precise and repetitive handling of a range of material quantities.
