About the Role:

At Imperfect, our Product Design team exists to make grocery shopping a joy again. We know that food means more than just ingredients: it’s the dish that transports us from where we are, a moment to connect with our loved ones, and comfort after a long day. It can also be a choice: to shop consciously for a better planet.

We are looking for a passionate, creative Lead Product Designer to join our team and help turn our mission into a reality by imagining ways to take the chore out of meal planning, spend less time shopping, and get the most out of what we buy. 

With over 400,000 customers, your audience will be new and loyal shoppers - as well as the Merchandisers, Dispatchers, and Warehouse Operations who use the internal tools that drive various functions. We are a small but growing team, where you will have the unique opportunity to own design execution for a large part of the business as well as influence product strategy, process, and culture. You’ll work closely with Product, User Research, and Engineering to bring your ideas to life.    

Responsibilities:

  • Take product requirements from concept to execution through user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas
  • Synthesize broad concepts and transforming them into intuitive, user-friendly application features, and impactful shopping experiences
  • Work closely with product managers to identify and define product opportunities and contribute to the overall product strategy
  • Leverage customer usage, feedback, and data to continually iterate, innovate, and evolve the product experience
  • Improve, maintain, and manage our Design System
  • Help build design awareness and affinity by contributing to and evangelizing for our Design Principles, accessibility best practices, and guidelines 
  • Lead and participate in design team rituals such as design sprints, critiques, and brainstorms

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5-7+ years of experience as a designer in a product-driven environment designing consumer-facing features and products 
  • Must submit a digital portfolio that showcases product design thinking, mobile-first responsive web design, and native mobile app design to be considered for this role. Please supply a password if applicable.
  • Deep understanding of the product development process, from definition to functional interaction, and detailed visual design
  • Experience iterating in low-fidelity sketches and workflows to high-fidelity designs using tools like Figma, Sketch, Principle
  • Ability to rapidly prototype as part of your workflow to validate product directions
  • Ability to showcase a solid understanding of insights on user behavior and a human-centered design approach
  • Ability to present ideas and rationale confidently and clearly in a way that invites collaboration and iteration
  • Deep understanding of design system architecture and accessibility requirements
  • We’re remote first, so strong written and verbal communication skills are a must-have.

Bonus Qualification:

  • Experience working with real-world logistics and operations teams
  • Experience working with Material UI, React, React Native, Storybook 
  • Experience with illustration and drawing storyboards 

About You:

  • You have a portfolio that showcases consumer-facing work through end-to-end interaction models, wireframes, and information architecture as well as delightful UI design details such as micro animations
  • You always take a human-centered design approach and have the ability to map rationale in design decisions back to your audience 
  • Interactive prototypes are a consistent part of your workflow—because you believe it helps tell the story and sell ideas
  • You have a deep understanding of design methods and activities including design sprints, rapid prototyping, cross-disciplinary sketch sessions, concept testing, and co-creation
  • You believe that comprehensive documentation is just as important as beautiful visual design
  • You have experience in incorporating inclusive design and accessibility into design-system-driven work
  • You’re an expert in translating requirements into designs through native app and responsive web experiences
  • You have a firm grasp on how business strategies and user feedback should influence your work proven by your emphasis on getting measurable results
  • You’re detailed oriented because you’ve worked in a fast-paced product-focused environment delivering assets that need to be pixel perfect
  • You’re exceptionally organized proven by your ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and delivering them on time
  • You’re proactively collaborative and it shows through your confidence in initiating conversations
  • You’re consistent in being able to effectively frame your work contextually and show rationale behind your design decisions
  • You have a habit of staying on top of the latest technology trends, industry design standards, and new approaches in design and sharing it with your colleagues

Details of Position:

  • Full-time, exempt position, reporting to our Director of Product Design
  • Position is remote, Bay Area preferred

How we are protecting employees from COVID-19

At Imperfect Foods, employee health and safety is our top priority. We have implemented processes and precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our facilities. We provide gloves, masks, and hand sanitizer to all essential employees who must report to work. Before entering our warehouse, employees have their temperatures checked. In addition, we take great care to ensure frequently touched surfaces are sanitized throughout the day and all warehouses are fully sanitized weekly.

We have also implemented an Emergency Sick Leave policy providing full-time and part-time employees 2 additional weeks of paid time off and up to 26 weeks paid leave if they have a confirmed case of COVID-19.
