Job Description

About This Opportunity

Rachio seeks a Chief Marketing Officer who is hungry to operate at the next level and will own the strategy, execution, and optimization of revenue growth for our hardware and software products. You will be focused on identifying ways to rapidly grow Rachio’s consumer business as well as select B2B channels. You will help to solve Rachio’s highest priority and most impactful business problems by leading growth efforts across channels, optimizing our user lifecycle, and ensuring Rachio reaches, acquires, and retains relevant users across multiple segments. In order to enable your success, the marketing team will report to you, and you will provide coaching and professional development to this small and mighty team. You will have the opportunity to hire additional marketing team members to grow this team. Additionally, you will lead outsourced marketing resources that support our growth objectives.

In this role you will see the direct impact of your work, ensuring alignment with leadership to inform strategic decisions and increasing visibility of the impact of those decisions amongst stakeholders across the business. You will have a budget and own critical metrics, including Revenue, LTV:CAC, ASP, ROAS, among others. In addition, you will partner closely with key stakeholders across the major functions of the business, including Product, Customer Success, Utility, and Engineering to define and tackle the most important questions facing the business. This is a highly unique opportunity to take on a senior leadership role, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, to drive the long term growth of Rachio.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Define the strategy to efficiently scale the Rachio business, largely by acquiring and retaining customers, including consumers, professionals, and water utilities
  • Manage the full lifecycle of product marketing initiatives, measuring and evaluating how your presentation of the product to the market generates product discovery, consideration and conversion across mediums and channels
  • Represent the market to the company—the positioning, the messaging, and the winning go-to-market plan with a deep understanding of our sales channels: their capabilities, limitations and current competitive issues.
  • Own growth marketing by developing and scaling channels quickly and efficiently to drive acquisition
  • Partner with Product to discover and develop ways to use product development to grow and retain customers, and differentiate from competitors
  • Develop and manage the marketing budget, channel P&Ls, and paid media thresholds
  • Independently monitor and report on KPIs and performance trends and learnings to the team and broader business
  • Serve as a natural leader to the marketing team by conducting 1:1s, performance reviews, professional development chats, and more
  • Oversee relationships with external vendor partners
  • Play an active role as a leader within the leadership team

Requirements and Skills

  • A proven ability to look broadly across many facets of marketing, and know enough to make bold decisions, and drive actionable direction in growth, product, and brand marketing and public relations
  • Exceptional cross-functional leadership with the ability to collaborate well with others across all levels of the organization.
  • Individual contributor level experience in both product marketing and growth marketing.
  • Experience building and leading a small marketing team. You are a proven leader who manages by motivating & inspiring the people around you
  • A track record of building great consumer brands
  • Experience handling internal and external PR and communications. You are a phenomenal storyteller who can communicate our company narrative across a variety of channels and mediums
  • Experience in a growth focused or general manager type role owning the P&L at a high growth startup, CPG company, or ecommerce company
  • Obsessive customer focus & track record driving viral growth in DTC and/or BTC environments with LTV focus
  • 360 brand thinker who appreciates and invests in the entire process, from engaging in discussions about physical product with built in viral growth, to marketing, to driving loyalty and engagement
  • Proven sales and marketing acumen, ideally with paid acquisition and agency management experience
  • Critical and creative thinker; you can dive multiple levels deep to solve tough problems
  • Intensely data-driven; you have a persistent hunger to analyze and improve performance, and clearly communicate and convince diverse stakeholders to act
  • Advanced knowledge of growth and marketing technologies and techniques - you stay at the forefront by devouring the latest thinking available
  • Drives a test & learn continuous improvement approach to driving growth projects
  • A highly organized “doer” with an exceptional ability to multitask; you will take initiative to execute, and are comfortable getting in the weeds
  • Passion for working collaboratively and cross-functionally, ideally with experience working with in house product and engineering teams
  • Curious, nearly to a fault; your insatiable desire to get beyond surface level learning & uncover true insight is fueled by asking 2nd, 3rd & 4th order questions
  • Unwaveringly objective; you represent the voice of the consumer, especially when learning is counter to initial hypotheses or prior learning
  • Thrive in working flexibly and efficiently, and both providing and receiving direct, honest, and supportive feedback

Compensation

  • The salary range for this role is $185,000-$220,000 with a bonus structure
