Communications Intern 

Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) is a national association of businesses that are making the energy we use secure, clean, and affordable. We work to accelerate the move to 100% clean energy and electrified transportation in the U.S. AEE is the only industry association in the U.S. that represents the full range of advanced energy technologies and services, both grid-scale and distributed. Advanced energy includes energy efficiency, demand response, energy storage, wind, solar, hydro, electric vehicles, and more. AEE represents more than 100 companies in the $240 billion U.S. advanced energy industry, which employs 3.2 million U.S. workers.  

AEE’s mission is transforming public policy to enable rapid growth of advanced energy businesses. We educate, engage, and advocate in more than a dozen states, in wholesale electricity markets, and at the federal level for executive actions, legislation, and regulations that expand the size and value of markets for advanced energy products and services. We also offer business intelligence products and select business development opportunities to help advanced energy companies grow.  
 

Internship Description  

AEE is looking for a communications intern for Summer 2022 to assist its media relations activity, which includes writing and disseminating statements for the press, writing op-eds and blog posts, creating social media content, and developing strategies for our pro-clean energy advocacy campaigns. Our organization is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and the intern will need to be located in the D.C. region in order to participate in a hybrid (in-person + online) internship experience.  
 

Responsibilities  

  • Draft and prepare social media content for public release 

  • Assist in writing op-eds and blog posts 

  • Draft “AEE in the News” content which showcases AEE staff members who are featured in media publications  

  • Work with our Policy team to assist in drafting press releases  

  • Other media relations activities as assigned 

 

Required Qualifications  

  • Interest in Communications field as a career strongly preferred 

  • Experience with HubSpot a plus 

  • Experience with social media content creation a plus

Dates: Flexible, but late January through late May preferred   
Location: Either U.S. remote or hybrid in our Washington D.C. office (per candidate preference) 
Hours: Between 15 to 30 hours per week  
Compensation: Academic Credit or $16.10/hr in select states*

*If an intern is not receiving academic credit AND is working in a state where AEE is registered as a business, they will be paid at a rate of $16.10 per hour. Candidates in all other states are welcome to apply for an academic credit internship. AEE is registered in the following states: CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, IL, ME, MD, MA, MO, NC, NV, OH, RI, TX, UT, VA, WA, and WI.
