About this job

UPSIDE has grown fast over the last few years, and the momentum continues! As the Process Development organization increases its experimental throughput, foundational support roles like this Laboratory Assistant are more critical than ever. The core responsibilities of this role are to  execute routine tasks in support of general lab services. The Bioprocess Core (BPC) utilizes a task management system to assign, level-load, and plan activities in a team-oriented manner. The right person will be energized by enabling their coworker technicians, researchers, and engineers in order to, together, change the future of food.

Responsibilities include… 

• Wash glassware (manual and washer-assisted) and operate autoclave
• Perform general lab upkeep activities
• Perform experiment tear-down after researchers have completed their work
• Maintain various inventories (e.g. consumables, stock solutions, glassware, etc.)
• Prepare routine stock solutions
• Pre-kit tubing and bioreactor assemblies (e.g. cut tubing and stage parts)

About you…

• High School or General Education/Equivalency Diploma/GED certificate
• Required experience: 6+ months in any lab, industrial, or food service role
• Ideal experience: 6+ months in a bioprocessing laboratory environment
• Enjoys fast-paced and complex environments, has a flexible mindset, and strives to make processes and experiences better.

Who you’ll work with…

• Bioprocess Core technicians operating experiments and working in the lab
• Process Development researchers, scientists, and engineers advising or executing more complex experiments in the lab
• Lab Operations group, which can help you implement systems that you might then maintain
• Cell Culture Media group, which may advise/collaborate with you on stock solution prep, storage, labeling, etc.

Key Contributions in First Year…

• Complete initial training within the first 2 months.
• Able to competently complete any assigned tasks within the first 2-4 months.
