Job Description

WHO YOU ARE

As a Facilities Maintenance Engineer you are responsible for maintenance, operations, troubleshooting and improving the facility & utility systems that support a 24/7 manufacturing environment.  Utilities are the lifeblood of the manufacturing plant, so high reliability is critical to Sila’s manufacturing success!  You have a strong focus on operational uptime, which will be essential in your day-to-day responsibility for building and maintaining infrastructure systems: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, process cooling, and much more. You will draw on your technical skills to solve complex multidisciplinary problems and work seamlessly with internal teammates and external contractors.  A top-notch facilities reliability engineer should have excellent project management skills and collaborate effectively with other engineers and maintenance technicians. You will lead data visualization and process monitoring tool development to empower operations technicians to proactively monitor utility systems 24/7.  You will engage with Sila’s custom mechanical, electronic, and software assets and supporting facilities. You have a high level of ownership and commitment to safety and reliability. You’ll work hand-in-hand with the maintenance & manufacturing team, EH&S, equipment engineers, process engineers, software developers, and contractors to accomplish this mission. You’re a hands-on engineer with a bias for action. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 

  • Technical focal point and service contract manager for manufacturing utilities & building facilities (including safety systems, cooling water, HVAC, electrical systems, hazardous waste storage, etc.)
  • Develop and manage concise operations, troubleshooting and maintenance procedures; leverage them to train appropriate stakeholders as needed. 
  • Effectively collaborate with multiple teams to implement asset upgrades that improve uptime, increase throughput, fix design problems, and improve safety.
  • Lead and document root cause failure analysis and improve asset reliability by implementing associated corrective and preventative actions. 
  • Support maintenance team with spare parts coordination & tracking.
  • Develop detailed repair plans for the maintenance team and provide technical support during equipment outages.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant facilities or utility engineering experience, with a preference for experience maintaining equipment for uptime-sensitive manufacturing applications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering.
  • Experience troubleshooting and upgrading complex, multidisciplinary technical systems (for instance: interconnected electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems).
  • Experience generating durable document packages for internal SOPs, and qualification of machines after upgrades.
  • Demonstrated leadership: ability to influence others and work autonomously with excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Experience with industrial controls and automation hardware/software and instrumentation would be nice.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and safety shoes.
  • This role will require some on-call support during nights and weekends.
