<h2>About the Role</h2> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Front-end engineering at Actual encompasses two primary challenges:&nbsp;</span></p> <ol> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Building elegant and responsive user interfaces with React and TypeScript</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Researching and developing new ways of presenting rich map and terrain visualizations</span></li> </ol> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Accomplishing these goals is not easy; it is very much an active R&amp;D enterprise that aims to go well beyond the patterns of the typical web stack. A sharp eye for performance tuning and optimization is a plus.</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">A discerning eye for UX, with a clear history of working to understand and build for the user.</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">A strong demonstrated passion for building interactive 2D or 3D graphical environments, either on the web or in a native context.&nbsp;</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Keen desire to challenge the technical gap that exists between the rich environments and detailed interaction of modern games and the web.</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The ability to jump in and make progress on different levels of the web stack as needed. You absolutely do not need to be an expert at everything, but you should be comfortable with continuous learning and extending beyond your core domain.</span></li> </ul> <h2>Our Tech Stack</h2> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Our frontend technology stack includes:</span></p> <ul> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">React and TypeScript</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">A variety of map and geodata visualization frameworks</span></li> <li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Connections to backend technologies including: Node, Python, and Google Cloud Platform</span></li> </ul> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In addition to these foundational components, we also experiment actively with a variety of 3D rendering technologies.</span></p> <h2><strong>Compensation</strong></h2> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The base salary range for this position is expected to be between $170,000 - $200,000 per year*.
