Job Description

Description

Our mission is to make agroforestry a cornerstone of agriculture. Propagate Ventures makes it easy for investors to fund low-risk agroforestry projects, while helping farmers increase profitability, through our analytics & project development platform.

At Propagate, we have a deep passion for nature, and of course, we love trees. We believe economics can work in harmony with nature, and that regenerative agriculture can be a financial and ecological success. Outside of work, you'll find us connecting locally with farmers, playing music, and getting active outdoors. Read our manifesto, and meet our team.

We are seeking a passionate, senior-level engineer to help us build analytics and project development tools for agroforestry. As the one of the first engineering hires, you’ll work on all parts of the software development process, from system design and implementation to testing and deployment.

What you'll do

  • Join a fun and collaborative team building agroforestry software tools
  • Be involved in a number of critical decisions for our tech stack and have responsibility over large parts of it
  • Own all aspects of the development process: designing, testing, deploying and supporting our application
  • Shape our overall culture and engineering culture as a core member of our team

What we're building and technical challenges you'll work on

  • Scalable mapping tools that work with large geospatial datasets
  • Nuanced economic models and reporting tools
  • Farm management tools that can feedback into and update our economic models
  • Building an MVP product with the right balance of short-term speed and future scalability in mind

What we'll be building in the longer term

  • Analysis of agroforestry datasets with machine learning and predictive analytics techniques
  • Tooling for managing financing and investments for agroforestry

Our Stack

  • Heroku
  • Ruby on Rails
  • MongoDB
  • GraphQL/Apollo
  • React
  • MapBox

Who you are

You have proven software development experience using multiple program languages and frameworks. Like us, you value creativity, curiosity, and intellectual honesty, and you are committed to solving problems as a team. You are a generalist willing to work on whatever the most important thing at the moment is. You’re passionate about creating a positive impact, and are motivated to join a small, incredibly productive team to do extraordinary things!
