Job Description

About us

We set up in 2018 to make EV charging simpler, greener and cheaper for drivers, to encourage EV adoption and reduce carbon emissions. Core to our platform is a proprietary smart-charging algorithm, dynamically aligning charging with intermittent low-carbon electricity, reducing carbon emissions from grid electricity by as much as 70%.

We’ve so far secured over 13m USD in funding and achieved the title of ‘Best Energy Startup in the World’ when we won the Free Electrons programme. We’ve brought together a high performing team bringing expertise from their previous roles at National Grid, Bulb, BCG, Meta, Amazon, BBOX and more, and pride ourselves on the inclusive and collaborative culture we’ve created.

We’re looking for more talented and passionate folk to join our mission to make EV charging greener, as we push to have over a million drivers using our product globally.

The role

We're building the world’s largest Virtual Power Plant by connecting electric vehicles with the energy system. To date we have a community of over 100,000 EV drivers who are helping to balance smart electricity grids across the US, Europe and Australia.

We are looking for a talented professional with commercial and technical experience in Demand Side Response to help scale our grid services business across North America.

In this role, you will be working to accelerate the decarbonization of transport and energy by expanding our Virtual Power Plant and making electric vehicles part of the solution for a smart, flexible, zero-carbon energy system.

Day to day, you’ll be leading the development of our virtual power plant and grid service contracts in North America. You’ll be working to unlock and scale new flexibility contracts with energy utilities across California, Texas and other markets. You’ll also work closely with the commercial, growth and engineering teams to help shape our technology roadmap and the product propositions we offer to EV drivers, energy networks, energy retailers, charger manufacturers and vehicle OEMs.

This industry is moving fast, and this role will involve keeping up to date with key policy and regulation evolving in the EV and Net-Zero space. Reporting to the Head of Grid & Data Services, this position is fully remote, ideally positioned in the USA with ability to travel to meet key contacts in California, the North East US and other key grid service markets. We have regular local meet-ups and quarterly company team weeks to keep everyone connected and supported.

What will you do?

  • Grow our position in California’s FLEXmarkets, by working with Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs), Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs), regulators and market partners.
  • Enter flexibility from ev.energy’s Virtual Power Plant into the California ISO wholesale energy market.
  • Support market entry strategy to deliver grid services in new markets across North America
  • Develop scalable processes for tendering, bidding, and contract management of flexibility services as we scale from tens to thousands of grid service contracts.
  • Run our Virtual Power Plant operations, increasing efficiency and revenue throughput.
  • Manage and grow client accounts
  • Help to build and scale a global team of analysts, traders and account managers once revenue milestones are reached

    What are we looking for?

    • Extensive commercial experience working in energy flexibility markets (ideally 5+ years)
    • Understanding of different flex markets across North America, and their participation requirements
    • In-depth knowledge of relevant policy development regarding electricity markets and demand side response technologies
    • Ability to problem solve and think of solutions to difficult technical and/or client challenges you might not have encountered before
    • Strong delivery focus, taking on end-to-end ownership of projects and/or products with an eye toward quality and client satisfaction
    • Self-management and drive; willing to proactively take on complex challenges
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to flex between senior clients and the internal engineering and sales teams
      How will we support you?
      • Remote working, investing in your home office setup or a co-working location convenient for you
      • Access to conferences, meet-ups and training
      • A top of the range Macbook and all you need to do your best work
      • A structured career progression framework and advancement opportunities
      • Health, dental, vision and life insurance and 401k
      • Paid parental leave
      • Generous equity, with options to earn more shares as you progress
      • Quarterly team meet-ups, to collaborate and have fun in person!

If you don’t have all of the requirements, but you’re really interested in what we’re doing, please apply anyway! We’d love to hear from you and may be able to tailor the role around your abilities and experience. We value applicants regardless of their background or years of experience.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

We are looking for someone based in North America for this position. This role pays up to 150k USD, in addition to share options, EV allowance, health insurance, 401k and other perks.
