Named “World’s Best Energy Start-up” and a “Rising Star” by S&P Global, we are a diverse and fully-remote team working on an industry-leading software platform that obtains real-time data from utilities to charge electric vehicles with the cheapest, greenest energy available while supporting the long-term stability and resilience of the power grid. We go to market with utilities and energy retailers across the world and administer managed EV charging programs for their customers, who are residential and commercial EV drivers, to help them earn incentives for low-carbon, grid-friendly charging.


The opportunity and role is a growth-stage startup with Series B funding and a clear goal: to intelligently integrate EVs into the power grid through a superior software platform for managed charging. In doing so, and our partners drive positive impact on power grids, save ratepayers billions of dollars and help move our global economy and transport system toward a cleaner energy future. With APIs that cover 95% of the light-duty EV market, we’re building on significant traction in all 50 states and with dozens of major regulated utilities, expanding our reach and impact.


To achieve our goals, we are hiring a Policy Director to support’s engagement with Public Utilities Commissions, regulators, policy-makers, and other key stakeholders across the US. This leadership role will have significant responsibility, autonomy, and potential for future growth within the company.


Working closely with the Head of North America, you will:

  • Collaborate with other commercial colleagues across the business to develop a US regulatory strategy that supports’s long-term commercial and growth ambitions;
  • Lead’s engagement at PUCs and other relevant regulatory bodies, and publicly represent the company to Commissioners, utilities and third parties in open meetings and workshops discussing EV charging and/or demand-side management;
  • Determine which proceedings and rulemakings for to participate in that will expand the market for’s managed charging services, including dockets for transport electrification and demand-side management;
  • Draft and submit compelling written comments and testimony on behalf of;
  • Build high-value, credible relationships with regulators, utility regulatory teams, environmental groups, consumer advocates, and other key stakeholders;
  • Work closely with our Sales Directors to unlock business opportunities for utility prospects; and
  • Partner closely with our utility customers, like-minded companies, and advocates to advance our shared transportation electrification goals.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for an experienced policy professional with a proven record of market development in North America. You’ve crafted and implemented a utility regulatory strategy, from identifying key proceedings and personnel to seeing a positive policy enacted. You have an ability to filter out the important regulatory movement from the noise, and you can put complex policies into a business context. You have outstanding communication skills and communicate a point of view in a compelling and persuasive way both in written form and verbally. Your relationship building skills will further the policy objectives of and the overall goal of electrifying transportation.


Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of policy and regulatory experience in the US within the energy/utility sectors;
  • Pre-existing understanding of the US energy landscape including state-level regulations and programs, federal legislation, and electricity markets;
  • Structured thinking delivered with a clear style of communication and relationship management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • A positive and collaborative working style, with the ability to consolidate different priorities and considerations into a single coherent strategy;
  • An ability to be flexible and entrepreneurial in what is a dynamic and fast-paced environment; and
  • Alignment to the vision, mission and values of


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Public Utility Commissions on EV charging and/or demand-side management topics;
  • Previous efforts engaging with utility regulators on the East and West Coasts;
  • Prior experience in a growth-stage startup;
  • Location, networks and/or ease of access to key East and West coast markets; and
  • Prior experience and success in working in a fully remote context.
