Job Description

About us

At Arca, we pull carbon dioxide from the air and store it permanently as rock.  To do this at scale, we partner with the minerals industry to implement our technology at mines.  These are the same mines that are producing the minerals necessary for the transition to a clean energy future. Arca’s founders are leaders in the field of carbon capture in mine tailings with more than 20 years of experience in innovation and research.

We believe that by working with nature, not against it, we can achieve carbon dioxide removal on the scale needed to secure thriving and abundant life on Earth for generations to come. If that resonates, we want to hear from you. We’re building a team of sharp, mission-driven, and collaborative individuals who take pride in using their skills to contribute to a sustainable future.

Our R&D Scientists are crucial to achieving our carbon dioxide removal goals, will be at the forefront of our technology development in the lab, and will also work to actively mineralize carbon at mine sites.  The successful candidate will have a strong scientific background, attention to detail, the ability to think outside the box, and a sense of adventure. R&D Scientists work closely with the Head of Technology and Head of Science, and in close collaboration with the larger science team. This role will be a mix of Vancouver-based work as well as extended international travel.

    • Building lab processes and creating Standard Operating Procedures
    • Abiding by, supporting, and promoting all health and safety protocols in the lab
  • Participating in local outreach events and lab tours in Vancouver, B.C.

Requirements of the role

  • Master’s degree in geology/geochemistry/geotechnical engineering/chemistry/materials science or related field
  • Experience working independently in a science lab (2 yrs +)
  • Familiarity running various analytical techniques (e.g., TGA, DSC, XRD, ICP-OES) and interpreting the data
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills, written, verbal and concise presentation of complex technical topics.
