Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

You will be working within the Trading Performance team where our key focus is to ensure we deliver our customer numbers targets for all 3 products (Energy, Home Services, and Retail Telecoms) for SSE, OVO, Corgi and Boost.

We are responsible for finalising all forecasts and working with the channels to understand and mitigate any risks to the forecast, as well as providing challenge and guidance on how these plans deliver both short-term and long-term value for the brands and optimising the spend of customer acquisition costs (CAC).

The Trading Performance team tracks and reviews sales channel performance and works closely with retention to ensure we meet our overall customer target, as well as having detailed dialogue with the Commercial Leadership Team to ensure we are supporting the longer term strategic goals.

What will I be doing?

You will be working within the Trading Performance team supporting the Senior Sales Strategy Manager with responsibility for delivering the customer numbers forecast updates to a wide variety of key stakeholders across the business including finance and energy trading.  You will be managing the relationships with all sales and retention channels and working closely with them to ensure we hit our goals, deliver opportunities and mitigate risks.  You will also be responsible for driving the weekly trading rhythm to ensure the group is focussed on the key areas for hitting our customer number targets.  


Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the customer number forecasting process to ensure a key set of assumptions are agreed and adhered to through the process.  Ensure customer number forecasts meet the goals of the business with the relevant opportunities and risks highlighted and managed
  • Work hand in hand with the Energy trading team to ensure we hedge for the right number of energy customers by brand and by tariff type (equates to ~£4bn of commodity cost per year)
  • Work closely with the Gross Margin and finance teams ensuring that we have an accurate forward view of retail customer numbers and therefore overall Revenue and Gross Profit and Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) performance
  • Manage, monitor and quality assure a wide range of management information and data analysis presented to a range of internal and external stakeholders, with the aim of establishing and sustaining a reputation for accuracy, timeliness and ease of understanding.
  • Ensure the delivery of multiple forecasting scenarios to provide the business with an variety of options to deliver different goals (Customer numbers, CAC, Gross Margin)
  • Maintaining a business-wide understanding of strategy and planned change initiatives
  • Supporting the opportunity and risks process to ensure we hold an up-to-date of all R&Os based on our latest forecast
  • Build on understanding of Sales Channel performance and customer number forecast to support the Senior Sales Strategy Numbers in challenging the business on the long term value created from various channels
  • Act as a data and analytics expert that your team can turn to for inspiration and assistance. Support the team’s ability to deliver individual analytics work products as needed, leveraging the support of the Trading Performance Analysts
  • Providing delegated support to the Senior Sales Strategy Manager on ad-hoc projects as required.

Ideally you will have:

  • 3+ years experience as a Commercial Manager, or similar role, preferably within the energy or utilities / telecoms industry
  • Previous experience managing a forecasting process for a large organisation
  • Demonstrated strong performance in prior roles with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Proven ability to lead and “get things done”
  • Distinctive problem solving and analysis skills with common sense and good business judgement
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to challenge senior leaders to ensure realistic forecasting
  • Experience using Anaplan, or similar forecasting tool, is preferred but not essential
  • MS Office / Google Suites proficiency is essential.  Knowledge of Power BI/Tableau is an asset
  • Previous experience working with large data sets on a regular basis is an asset
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to ensure project timelines and deliverables are met or exceeded.
