Summary
Jupiter is looking for a motivated data scientist who is interested in working with a world-class team of data scientists, physical scientists, and software engineers to improve and optimize assessments of risk from flooding, heat, wind, fire and other hazards that are impacted by extreme weather and climate change. You will design and implement cutting-edge methods and algorithms from applied statistics and machine learning that address a wide variety of problems in weather and climate, ocean modeling, hydrology, extremes, uncertainty quantification, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with our data science, science, and software engineering teams to develop and integrate data science solutions to advance our product offerings
  • Work with the wide variety of spatial-temporal and non-Gaussian data typical of the geosciences, including station and gauge data, weather and climate model output, remotely sensed data, etc. 
  • Expand the company’s data science capabilities with new algorithms, methods, techniques, tools, languages, etc. 
  • Be a data science resource to other members of the science, engineering, and business teams.

  • Travel Requirements : Limited travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • A passion for using your data science skills to solve scientific and business related problems
  • Master’s degree plus two years of experience using, adapting, or developing data science algorithms or methods with an emphasis on applied statistics. This could include coursework, academic research, work experience, or a combination. 
  • PhD focused in applied statistics, machine learning, or a scientific discipline such as atmospheric science, ocean science, hydrology, etc. is a plus, but not required. 
  • Proficiency in programming with a relevant data science language such as Python (preferred) or R. Experience with software engineering best practices or with agile development is a plus, but not required. 
  • Ability to work independently in an interdisciplinary environment
For Colorado Residents Only- If you are hired into a Colorado work location, the compensation range for this position is between $90,000 and $140,000 based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
