About the position
We are looking for an experienced Python backend software engineer to join our Software Development Department. You will develop our products based on user, product and business requirements, in collaboration with your Team Leader, Architect and the Product Department.
Our products are used by shipping company engineers and captains to optimise the technical operations and navigation of their vessels based on our in-house developed AI and optimisation algorithms. You will need to gain a good understanding of the domain and our research output to design improvements that make our backend infrastructure scalable and cover our customers’ needs.
Our cloud platform is hosted on AWS, and we are in the process of transitioning our infrastructure to container orchestration using EKS.
Necessary:
4+ years of proven hands-on Software Development experience in Python ( version 3.8+ )
Strong knowledge of at least one major Python framework (Django, Flask etc)
SQL knowledge, especially related to query efficiency and optimization
Experience with both external and embedded databases (relational), as well as with cache engines (Memcached, Redis)
Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
Knowledge of libraries such pandas, NumPy, SciPy
Familiarity with pip and venv
Solid understanding of both the functional and object-oriented programming paradigms and how they apply to the Python language
Familiar with various design and architectural patterns, especially concurrent ones
Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
Skill for writing reusable Python modules
Knack for writing clean, readable Python code
Familiarity with concepts of MVC, DBI, ORM and RESTful
Basic understanding of Gunicorn, its limitations and weaknesses
Microservice architecture
Implementing unit tests
Analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication (also in English).
Linux (CentOS, RedHat)
Desired, but not mandatory:
Knowledge of Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem
NoSQL databases (Cassandra, etc)
Time Series Databases
Cloud working experience
Docker containers
Experience in working with Atlassian platform (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo)
Message Brokers (RabbitMQ, Kafka)
Interpersonal Skills
