Job Description

About Nautilus.

Nautilus is building artificial intelligence to advance the efficiency of ocean commerce. We deliver technology to help shipping companies minimize fuel consumption, maximize operational efficiency, and optimize fleet performance. By arming ship owners and operators with real-time predictive decision support, Nautilus is reducing greenhouse gas emissions and making global trade sustainable.

Ocean shipping consumes over $100 billion dollars of fuel every year, and up to 30% of it can be saved. For owner-operators, reliance on manually collected and analyzed data makes it difficult to optimize fleet performance in real-time. By providing a unified data platform that leverages machine learning, Nautilus helps its clients make better decisions to maximize the return on each ship and every voyage. For our clients, this means they drive closer collaboration, greater transparency, and stronger accountability across their global teams every day.

About you.

You are a well-rounded, HR professional looking to strengthen your People Operations experience, while supporting a growing team.  You’re mission driven and want to be a part of a people-first culture, driving engagement through a deep and analytical understanding of the business.

As a member of the People Team, you’re a highly visible face of Nautilus Labs for everyone you meet and an ambassador of our culture with internal stakeholders.  As such, you’ll need to be an excellent communicator and compassionate with a high EQ.  You recognize that, as a fast-growing early-stage startup, we need well-rounded team players who can easily navigate between the strategic and the tactical, the personal and the pragmatic, and that excites you! To be successful in this role, you’re also hyper-organized, naturally detail-oriented and incredibly resourceful.

Outcomes for the Role.

  • Experience & Engagement: Lead key initiatives from DEI and performance reviews through policy updates, as well as providing day-to-day operational support to employees and managers on HR questions.
  • Total Rewards: Build and execute upon a thoughtful total rewards program, including compensation administration, benchmarking & philosophy, equity options and an overall benefits and wellness strategy.
  • Learning & Development: Facilitate L&D programs across the organization, managing resources both internally and externally.
  • Communications: In fostering a culture of feedback and transparency, you’ll assist in creating internal communications plans that serve the entire team.  This may include All Hands updates, enrollment kickoffs, lunch & learns, etc.
  • Team Player: Support and/or lead one-off projects, as needed, which may include office management and administration, team celebrations, ERG facilitation, etc.

Proficiencies.

  • 5+ years of experience in HR/People Operations.
  • Experience supporting hybrid and global teams.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and biased towards action, with an open ear to perspectives counter to your own.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills - this is especially important as we grow a global and hybrid workforce!
  • Experience with reporting and analytics, creating dashboards and working with data to drive employee retention and engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience with coaching employees and management through complex and difficult issues & the ability to collaborate with all levels of a business, influencing teams positively.
  • Experience administering compensation, benefits and wellness programs.
  • Ability to exhibit a high level of confidentiality and operate with discretion.
  • Understanding or ability to learn our current People tech stack: Justworks, OptionImpact, Carta, Greenhouse, Slavic401K, OfficeVibe, Checkr, HelloSign, Pingboard & GSuite.

Our core values.

Get ready to join a group of diverse, smart, talented, and driven individuals. We are looking for people who are motivated by environmentalism and a future where shipping is sustainable and safe. A team member joining Nautilus is...

  • We’re THOUGHTFUL, with a bias towards action.
  • We’re an INCLUSIVE crew, and we are not passengers along for the ride.
  • We’re DIRECT and we ask the tough questions.
  • We EMPATHIZE with humanity.
Location: We are currently 100% remote and this role will be required to report to the New York office (2-3x a week) once it reopens.  No relocation assistance is available.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
