Job Description

About This Role

At Apeel Sciences, we look to nature to help the global food system improve quality, reduce waste, and ensure an abundant future for our planet. The Formulation Sciences team is made up of chemists, engineers, catalysis specialist, and materials scientists who identify the key drivers of produce decay and develop new methodologies to extract, create, and reassemble the natural building blocks derived from plant biomass in order to extend the shelf life of produce. We are seeking a highly motivated, process-oriented scientist or engineer to develop quality assurance protocols and improve product application and performance measurement methods. You will ensure that Apeel’s final products are delivering maximum value to our customers.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and author product application and quality assurance protocols related to Apeel-treated fruits and vegetables
  • Regularly interface with customers, Apeel field staff, and engineers to lead the continuous improvement of product application processes and quality assurance tools
  • Collect and analyze product performance data from customer sites
  • Author product performance reports and executive summaries
  • Assist with equipment integration and start-up at customer facilities around the globe
  • Author and adhere to standard operating procedures, train incoming technicians, and ensure compliance with these standardized processes
  • Frequently interface with our R&D, Engineering, Product, Operations, and Revenue teams to facilitate the growth of Apeel’s produce supply base at packing/distribution facilities around the world

What You Bring

  • BS, MS, or PhD in materials science, industrial engineering, biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related STEM field.
  • Formal research or industry experience (minimum of 2 years) in a STEM field or technology-driven company (undergraduate research, internships, masters or PhD research, etc.)
  • Lean/Agile or Six Sigma training (preferred)
  • Ability to perform indoor and outdoor work in cold or hot environments and lift boxes of fruit (up to 40lbs)
  • Willingness to travel 40% of the time (domestic and international), with some assignments lasting several weeks
  • Spanish language fluency (strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated organizational ability, high attention to detail, and aptitude for process improvement
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a technical field
  • Business level proficiency in Spanish
