Job Description

Crowdsourcing Sustainability is a start-up nonprofit that has 150,000+ people from 150+ countries reading our sustainability newsletters that inform minds, touch hearts, and inspire action. We also have a podcast and a slack community where people can connect and collaborate.

Our global team is made up of 2 amazing volunteers and myself right now. Hoping there will be 5 of us soon :)

We need someone who has the technical skills to build a web tool that will empower people to act on climate more effectively.

The gist of the idea is for people to enter their town, school, and company on a webpage. Then they will see the associated greenhouse gas emissions for each, see how their town, school, and company compares to others with peer benchmarking, and then, critically, they will see the most impactful actions they personally can take within their various spheres of influence.

Here's a handwritten version with more details.

I have data sources in mind - just need someone with the technical skills to bring this tool to life!

Theory of change:

We have the solutions to reverse global warming.

What we're missing is the power to implement them.

We need to influence the policy and investment decisions at every level around the world that are determining Future emissions.

We can do that by inspiring and empowering people to act and organized with others where they live and work, at all levels, around the world to build towards the 3.5% of people needed to make change happen.

About you:

The ideal candidate will be passionate about tackling the climate crisis, have a desire to learn and grow, is ready to roll up their sleeves, and is a genuine, good person. Strong communication skills and someone who's looking for a start-up atmosphere to learn and do a lot are a plus.

Final notes & thoughts

To be up-front, this is not a paid position. I wish I could pay you! But we're a new non-profit and I haven't even paid myself yet (getting closer every day though!)

I can act as a mentor though if that's of interest, help build skills, and do what I can to help you on your climate journey both personally and professionally.

Of course, this role could turn into more responsibilities if things go well and that is of interest to you. There's no shortage of work to be done!

The north star of Crowdsourcing Sustainability is really asking the questions: "How can we help to reverse global heating as quickly and equitably as possible? How can we better inspire/empower/connect people to level up their impact? How can we grow the community?" So if you have any ideas for improvements or projects to that end, I'll be all ears.

Looking forward to reading your cover letter, speaking with you, and seeing if this is a good fit!
