Job Description

Location: Flexible

The OVO Group’s purpose is to drive progress towards net zero carbon living. To reach Plan Zero, we need everyone to come together - not just as customers buying energy, but as members with a common goal. As part of this ambitious plan, our goal is to become the ‘Leading Employer in the UK’ by 2030. If you think you could be the talent we’re looking for, then come and join the adventure!

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

OVO exists to power human progress with clean and affordable energy for everyone.

Our user experience practice is growing and we’re seeking an experienced designer tojoin a team investigating smart heat and home energy efficiency.

We want to decarbonise our customer’s home heating and are investing in new heating technologies to provide customers with greener alternatives. We need to identify, test, and develop novel ways to offer smart heat systems to customers, provide flexibility to the national grid, and promote the use of renewable energy to decarbonise our economy. This requires a radical transformation to an already complex energy system, as well as the service we offer our customers. It’s also never been done before.

What will I be doing?

You'll join a squad responsible for identifying new heating technologies to provide customers with greener alternatives. Our aim is to intelligently optimise how and when devices use energy and bring down the cost of heating our homes.

  • Rapid prototyping and testing potential solutions, and understanding how to run lean and iterate continuously.
  • Design user journeys, service maps, documentation, user flows and wireframes. Consider multiple journeys, not just the happy path.
  • Use different research techniques to organise tests and understand user needs. And get stakeholders involved in the research process.
  • Working in line with our design system, accessibility standards and patterns. Contribute to our standards and frameworks.
  • Use various tools for sketching, collaborating, prototyping and communicating design. We love Figma and Miro!
  • Take an agile and lean approach to software development. We use tools like Jira and Confluence.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering colleagues. Facilitate workshops and design sprints.
  • Develop a strong technical knowledge of our products and services
  • Measure the impact of your team's work against business objectives and user needs
  • Coach and mentor mid- and junior designers

Is this the job for me?

Our ideal candidate will have these skills, qualities and experiences:

  • Skilled in building strong relationships across multiple teams
  • Experience in agile, lean, evidence-based and human-centred design frameworks
  • Able to simplify complex ideas and communicate them clearly
  • High attention to detail
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment

From us you’ll get*

  • 4% of your salary to spend on flexible lifestyle benefits
  • 5% matched employer contribution to your pension
  • 25 days holiday + 1 for your birthday
  • Flexible working hours
  • And many more...

(*) Please note that certain benefits kick-in once you have passed probation which can be up to 6 months after your start date.
