Consult on strategy & foster key relationships for the organization that is changing how meat is made

The Good Food Institute (GFI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization at the forefront of the movement to use food technology and markets to solve some of the world’s biggest problems, from climate change and global hunger to antibiotic resistance and the exploitation of animals.

How You Will Make a Difference 

In this role, you will work closely with GFI co-founder and CEO Bruce Friedrich. You will play a consulting role to shape and evangelize GFI’s global mission, communications, and philanthropic development. You will enable the CEO and GFI leadership to work most effectively with external stakeholders and fulfill their commitments to GFI’s global partners. As the CEO’s counsel and proxy, the role requires resourcefulness, emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical skills.

The Advisor or Senior Advisor to the CEO will be responsible for:

  • Orchestrating and/or participating in high-level meetings with or on behalf of the CEO, including with policymakers, philanthropists, NGO executives, and other key individuals or organizations that can offer mission-critical support to GFI.
  • Serving as a liaison to GFI’s leadership team, including department VPs and managing directors, to facilitate the flow of time-sensitive and mission-critical information in order to facilitate effective decision-making. 
  • Supervising the Strategic Planning Specialist to coordinate the planning, revision, and execution of GFI’s strategy on behalf of the CEO. 
  • Working with the CEO’s executive assistant to develop meeting agendas, draft briefing memos, and finalize trip itineraries by seeking input from GFI’s programmatic experts in preparation for the CEO’s key engagements. 
  • Acting as a sounding board to the CEO as GFI explores new ideas and initiatives, including facilitating the rapid collection and analysis of high-level data and trends, as directed, to support the CEO’s awareness and understanding of emerging hot topics, as well as of potential donors, governmental entities, etc.
  • Delivering presentations  and participating in events and cultivating meaningful relationships with potential partners.
  • Independently drafting and finalizing letters and correspondence, public presentations, and general information on behalf of the CEO. Consulting with internal experts to ensure accuracy of information and messaging.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned.
Who We’re Looking For 

The Advisor or Senior Advisor to the CEO must have:

  • Advisor: Two years of relevant experience, preferably in food and agriculture policy, nonprofit management, and/or government.
  • Senior Advisor: Five years of relevant experience, preferably in food and agriculture policy, nonprofit management, and/or government.
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills and interpersonal savvy.
  • Organizational and political agility underpinned by developed negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to successfully navigate within varying degrees of ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
  • Unquestionable personal code of ethics, integrity, diversity, and trust.
  • Friendly and positive personality.
  • Comfort working remotely and in a rapidly growing and evolving organization.
  • Strong support for GFI’s philosophy and mission; demonstrated interest in public health, environmentalism, animal protection, or hunger relief.

The Fine Print
  • Terms of employment: Full-time, exempt
  • Reports to: Bruce Friedrich, CEO
  • Location: Remote; United States (preferably near the Washington D.C. region)
  • Travel: Up to two weeks per year for company retreats.
