About the Role
As a key member of our "Future of Heat" team, you will contribute to the development of leading-edge research and technology development to aid in an equitable and resilient energy transition. Your work will encompass:
Research
<ul>
<li>Uncovering financial and operational insights from utility filings submitted to state utility commissions and to shareholders where applicable.</li>
<li>Conducting literature reviews and producing summaries of scientific papers, news articles, and energy related policies.</li>
<li>Finding or building key data-sets to aid in technical analysis of both operational and policy decisions related to building decarbonization and the future of heat.</li>
</ul>
Skills Needed:&nbsp;Experience in academic or other technical research, utility economics
Analysis
<ul>
<li>Evaluate the technical feasibility of diverse energy strategies like deep energy retrofits, air-source and ground-source heat pumps, network geothermal and more.</li>
<li>Prepare cost-benefit models of diverse energy strategies</li>
</ul>
Skills Needed:&nbsp;Understanding of heating/cooling technologies, data visualization skills, (Excel, Tableau), Python (desirable).
Strategic Communications
<ul>
<li>Distill complex topics into engaging, actionable reports for regulatory and general audiences.</li>
<li>Utilize interpersonal skills and qualitative research techniques in order to work with a geographically dispersed team for geographically dispersed clients.</li>
</ul>
Skills Needed:&nbsp;Technical writing, powerpoint/presentation development.
Minimum Qualifications
Values and abilities prioritized over traditional education/work experience.
<ul>
<li>Researcher: 5+ years in relevant fields.</li>
<li>Senior Researcher: 10+ years in relevant fields.</li>
</ul>
Desired Skills &amp; Experience
Experience in the following topical and technical areas would be considered highly desirable but a lack of experience should not dissuade applicants:

<li>Utility policy and regulation as demonstrated by work for a regulatory agency, utility company, or consulting firm</li>
<li>Utility financial analysis as demonstrated by work for a regulatory agency, utility company, or consulting firm</li>
<li>Utility energy efficiency programs</li>
<li>Technical writing experience gained through a Ph.D or prior work experience</li>
<li>Bioenergy, waste, and renewable natural gas</li>
<li>Building energy simulation or analysis with a focus on high performing all electric building science and economics (e.g., BeOPT, EnergyPlus, ResStock)</li>
<li>Cost benefit analysis</li>
<li>Macro Energy systems modeling (e.g., GenX or similar grid model, GCAM or similar IAM)</li>
<li>Life cycle analysis of of building energy or bioenergy systems</li>
</ul>
Compensation &amp; Benefits
Our compensation aligns with boutique consulting firms and varies based on qualifications and experience. Candidates open to a trial period as an hourly contract researcher are desirable.

<li>Researcher: $80,000-$100,000 with opportunities for advancement.</li>
<li>Senior Researcher: $115,000+</li>
</ul>

Remote/Hybrid: Boston or DC area preferred for occasional in-person working days.
