Job Description

OVERVIEW

We are actively seeking an ambitious, experienced, and highly driven Data Scientist (Applied Statistics) to assist in the acceleration of our scientific work. As a key member of our Research and Development team, the Data Scientist (Applied Statistics) will work closely with our scientists and engineers to design experiments and deploy findings, analyses, and models into production for scientific use. YOUR MISSION

To collaborate with scientists for the purpose of experimental design, performing statistical analysis and modeling, and communicating findings to the scientists to produce data-driven results and insights. To research and implement new methodologies to accelerate Terramera’s bioscience research.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Collaborate with scientists to design and execute experiments for biological studies in a lab setting, in growth chambers, and in the field;

· Define experiment goals, identify factors and responses, choose appropriate study designs and calculate necessary sample sizes;

· Perform data validation, statistical analysis, and modelling to analyze data collected from the biological studies;

· Prepare written and oral presentations that summarize data analysis results, interpret findings and provide recommendations;

· Implement analytical/statistical strategies and research new methodologies in consultation with other experts;

· Develop computational models for predictive analytics and prescriptive analytics; and

· Collaborate with Software and Machine Learning Engineers to deploy your models into production.

REQUIREMENTS

· PhD. or MSc in Statistics, Biostatistics or related fields;

· Strong understanding of fundamental statistical concepts and methods;

· 2+ years’ practical experience in experiment design, including power analysis, block design, factorial design, longitudinal design, and statistical analysis;

· Experience with statistical learning / machine learning techniques and frameworks

PREFERENCES

· Accreditation in Statistics/Analytics;

· Experience with Python or R programming;

· Familiarity with agriculture field research, plant physiology and phenotyping;

· Good understanding of regulatory guidelines and requirements in agriculture field research;

· Familiarity with open-source biostatistics libraries and software; and

· Knowledge of the Agile project management methodology.
