We are a climate-tech company headquartered in Helsinki, Finland with a subsidiary and operations in the UK and California. Our dedicated team is on a mission to get to a scale where we remove 1Gt CO2e annually, or 1 billion tons of CO2.

Reporting to our London & Helsinki based CEO, you will be working with colleagues in Europe and the US East coast.

Why Carbon Removal?

By 2050, the whole world will likely need to remove up to 10Gt of carbon dioxide annually to remain below 1.5c warming, and Carbo Culture’s ambition is to be a central part of that effort.

Our technologically advanced, patented solution is market ready. We’ve proven our technology at demo scale and are now embarking on a path to rapid scaling and expansion. We build and run factories which lock carbon dioxide into a stable form of biochar for thousands of years. We sell biochar products, CO2 removal credits and the excess renewable heat generated as a by-product.

We are looking for a Head of Project Finance to help us grow rapidly, negotiate financing for projects, lead business dev efforts where needed and remove any obstacles from expansion. In addition to helping us make better forecasts and business decisions, you will lend a hand to business dev, identifying new opportunities and carrying out high profile partnerships.

Key tasks include for example:

• Identify the best project finance avenues and partners for the next 10 facilities’ financing together with the CEO
• Prepare all project investment materials, risk analysis and financial models
• Develop financing models with both debt based and equity structures
• Drive commercial partnerships with on/offtake and key stakeholders
• Work hands on in removing any financial or business obstacles from project development
• Build out your own team as needs arise

We’re looking for a dedicated and driven Head of of Project Finance to join our rapidly growing team. You are a problem solver with appetite for risk and can both create strategy and execute it. You’re driven to help us mitigate climate change and answer the rapidly growing demand for carbon removal. You’re ready to pick up the phone, work with a new team, and you can lead a project with kindness and excellency. You can be a key team player for us building our company in the coming years.

Requirements

Experience and characteristics we're looking for:

• Project financing experience, ideally 50M€ + project development in fields like solar / wind / other energy installations, biogas, biotech/high tech, process technology (e.g food production)
• You have been on the responsible team of a project throughout the different stages of planning / development / operational phase
• You can bring an interested party through negotiation to contracts
• You have experience in downside risk analysis or similar
• Direct project finance deal development and management experience, including carrying out negotiations with legal, contractual and scheduling elements, ideally in a senior / lead position
• Experience with Dev Co / SPV instruments and best practices
• Financial modelling of 20M€ + projects
• You excel in a fast-paced environment and need little to no direction
  
  

Nice-to-have skills and experience

• Experience in finance, eg investment banking, PE or similar
• Strong networks with funding instruments
• Experience with grants, tax benefits etc climate oriented investment incentives
