Job Description

Energy and Environmental Economics, Inc. (E3), a leading energy consulting firm headquartered in downtown San Francisco, is seeking a full-time Project Accountant. Our growing firm needs your attention to detail in support of our accounting and administrative functions. This position requires an excellent team player who is comfortable working with our leadership team and staff to ensure that our accounting system is running smoothly.
 
E3 supports the global clean energy transition by conducting technical analysis related to decarbonizing electricity and the broader economy for a broad range of clients. Strong demand and our reputation as a leading firm have produced significant recent growth, which we expect to continue. E3 currently has approximately 90 staff based in four offices across North America.
 
The ideal candidate brings strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently.

Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Setting up new projects in compliance with revenue recognition standards and contract language
  • Ensuring timely and accurate recording of time and expenses to jobs, including subcontractor invoices
  • Performing month end expense accruals for incurred costs
  • Ensuring accurate matching of purchase orders and subcontracts to subsequent invoices
  • Ensuring timely and accurate billing to customers and assisting in collection efforts
  • Reviewing revenue recognition calculations and ensuring their timely submission to corporate accounting
  • Preparing monthly reports on project performance and reconciling variances
  • Performing expense allocation verification, accruals, and journal entries
  • Assisting in monthly revenue recognition, billing, financial closing
  • Ensuring internal process is compliant with SOX controls
  • Assisting with special projects and other work as requested

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree required
  • A proven team player with strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills
  • Strong communication and critical thinking skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • High proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Discretion in handling sensitive/confidential business information

Bonus Qualifications

  • BS degree (accounting)
  • 1-3 years’ professional accounting experience, preferably in Project accounting
  • Previous experience with Deltek Costpoint or other project (cost) accounting system
  • Experience managing deadlines and multiple collaborators in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated interest in clean energy and/or the environment
  • GAAP and SOX experience
Compensation
 
This a full-time, 40 hour per week position. Compensation is commensurate with experience and performance. Full benefits include healthcare, life, dental, vision, Section 125 Cafeteria Plan, sick time, and paid time off. Eligibility starts on Day 1. We also offer 401k matching and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
