Job Description

StreetLight pioneered the use of Big Data analytics to help transportation professionals and data analysts understand mobility behavior. Applying proprietary machine-learning algorithms to over four trillion spatial data points over time, StreetLight measures diverse travel patterns and makes them available on-demand via the world’s first SaaS platform for mobility, StreetLight InSight®. From measuring traffic volumes to identifying trip origins and destinations, to planning for electric vehicles charging, StreetLight powers more than 6,000 global projects every month.
As a Data Scientist on the Services team, you will be responsible for creating solutions that directly benefit our most cutting-edge customers. You will gain a deep understanding of their unique needs, and use your data science skills to develop creative solutions for them. You will dive deep into StreetLight's massive repository of transportation data and develop efficient queries to get the answers customers need, explore new visualization techniques, and blend together new data sets.

  • Research and implement suitable strategies (from neural networks to a simple SQL filter, if that’s more actionable) for solving data science problems.
  • Use statistical tools for analysis and validation of results.
  • Present final result to stakeholders, including documentation and supporting interactive visualizations of data.
  • Work collaboratively with Sales, Solutions Engineers and Account Management to turn customer requests into clearly defined outputs, on time, that delight and empower the customer.

  • Basic understanding of techniques in data science (machine learning algorithms, forecasting, regression analysis, data visualization etc.)
  • Ability to accurately estimate how long it will take you to finish a complex task, to meet those targets, and make compromises to enable scalability and productization of algorithms
  • Knowledge of geospatial data and statistics is a plus
  • Knowledge of transportation data / industry is a plus. This includes working in a transportation-focused role within government, consulting, private-sector mobility, or a non-profit
