Volunteer role Engineering: Software Information Technology

Job Description

Position Description
We are building a powerful technical platform that employs some of the world's poorest people to grow forests by paying them for the positive impacts they create. Together we develop a suite of open source services for tracking, managing, and funding the regrowth of the world’s forests! Click through to our onboarding form to learn more!

Our Android team is gearing up for a major development push this Spring, where they will implement major upgrades to our open-source application. Our new UX improves usability for users in remote areas of the world with low literacy while increasing their access to features that support their livelihood and efforts in forest restoration. We are scaling the team up to meet the demand created by the first version of this application!

Development of this next version for Android will leverage the Compose framework and builds off a well-factored base of MVVM code. For an experienced developer, this is an opportunity to make a short-term, targeted contribution and create a big impact! And it’s also a great place to make new friends and connections!

In return for your support, we can offer:

  • Letter confirming your volunteer hours and projects
  • Professional reference(s)
  • Valuable experience gained & leadership opportunities
  • Engagement with a team of global professionals
  • Being part of an amazingly complex fast evolving global project

About Greenstand

Greenstand is a fully remote social non-profit organization turning environmental stewardship into a reliable source of income. Our work tackles both extreme poverty and climate change. Our main product is the Treetracker, a mobile app that allows planting organizations and their donors to track the growth of newly planted trees through periodic geotagged photos.

The project is at a really exciting stage and has just been elevated to a Supporting Partner for the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. This could not be done without our amazing Greenstanders contributing their skills and time from around the world.
