The Role

As VP of Software Engineering you will develop and own all software-related aspects of the business, translating company strategy into an achievable roadmap and managing its execution. In this role, you will build and lead a small team and manage key external partners.

What You’ll Do

• Build and lead a software team comprising software engineers, controls engineers and data scientists to develop Altus’ software stack including: onboard software and firmware, IOT stack including back-end and cloud, external data feeds, and more 
• Provide hands-on technical leadership to the team, set the standards, procedures, and cadence for multiple development projects, conduct code reviews and, as appropriate, personally take on coding work
• Design the software architecture to balance competing near and long-term objectives across cost, performance, and scalability
• Manage external partners that are providing various inputs to and/or components of the software stack
• Help define and spec out the required hardware-for-software  
• Partner across the organization to ensure that the software team’s deliverables are aligned with the product vision, and that the product is reliable, effective and brought to market on time
• As a member of the management team, you will also contribute and lead in areas such as strategy, culture, finance and administration

What You Need

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent training in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline
• 7+ years of relevant software engineering experience in a start-up or growth stage environment
• 5+ years of team management experience in a start-up or growth stage environment
• Significant experience with software development for the control of hardware products including experience with IOT development
• Strong ability to hire top talent, manage and inspire the team, lead by example, and develop people to enable their professional growth
• Deep understanding and commitment to software engineering best practices and principles and continuous improvement through measurement
• Passion for having an impact on climate change
• Demonstrated track record of achieving results in a resource constrained setting
