Job Description

Role: 6 month Fixed-term contract

Location: We're flexible with where you're based from, but you need to be comfortable travelling to our Bristol/London offices from time to time.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working? 

The Data Protection Team sits within the Regulation and Compliance area - a growing, tight-knit bunch of individuals who are passionate about building something more than your average in-house compliance function.  You will also work closely with OVO’s legal and information security teams.

Much like OVO itself we believe things can be done differently – and better.  We believe there’s more to life than “ticking-the-box” and being called only when something goes wrong.  The Regulation and Compliance team are at the front line with everyone else working towards OVO’s vision and goals, truly integrated in the OVO business.

 

What will I be doing?

You will be working closely with senior management and teams across OVO to:

  • Provide data protection compliance advice and support to the business;
  • Raise awareness throughout the organisation, including supporting the design and organisation of training; 
  • Support the  investigation and management of data protection incidents; 
  • Support the completion of data protection impact assessments;
  • Support our retail product and marketing teams in relation to new proposition development;
  • Support the maintenance of the data protection policies and procedures, including website privacy policies;
  • Support the management of centralised documentation of our activities in relation to data processing, data sharing and data storage;
  • Advise on legal and regulatory restrictions in respect of personal data location, cross border data transfers and personal data access restrictions/requirements;

Although we're always willing to consider a wide range of candidates, as a guide the successful candidate is likely to have the following experience level and skills: 

Ideally you will have:

  • Proven experience within a Data Protection Manager role - preferably in a complex and growing business.
  • Detailed Knowledge of GDPR and associated regulations, and experience in practically applying those regulations.
  • Experience in translating complex legislation or regulatory guidance into specific and clear business-focused guidance.
  • Some crisis management skills
  • High level of direct contact and autonomy with business colleagues / clients.
  • Knowledge of IT systems, processes, and information security practices.
  • Highly commercial and constructive problem solving abilities. The OVO compliance, legal & risk teams pride themselves on ‘finding a way’.
  • Highly responsive and proactive – we build bridges as well as fight fires.
  • Strong, articulate communicator – written and oral.  You're able to communicate effectively with internal partners, data protection authorities and customers where appropriate. 
  • Great teammate who can also work comfortably autonomously. 
  • Ability to juggle a full workload and rapidly shifting priorities.
  • A well-rounded personality with the capacity to work effectively with others from a wide range of professional and non-professional backgrounds.
  • Sound common-sense judgement and a willingness to operate out of his or her comfort zone.
