This role is pivotal in supporting the Science Team in leading research, policy analysis, and technical assistance in these areas, with a particular focus on developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. damage, in the context of climate change risks, adaptation and limits to adaptation.</li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Lead quantitative and qualitative approaches to estimate present and future loss and damage costs</li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Develop new thought leadership on critical and emerging topics in loss and damage, such as inclusion in climate-resilient development, and loss and damage finance, particularly for developing countries</li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Analyze international policy frameworks, assessing their effectiveness in addressing the (residual) impacts of climate change and loss and damage.</li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Collaborate closely with risk assessment specialists, and support the design and interpretation of models and quantitative analyses. </li></ul><div style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><strong>Policy Development </strong></span></div><ul><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Make analytical contributions to the development of international, regional, national and/or sub-national loss &amp; damage and adaptation strategies, integrating local and indigenous knowledge.</li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Support the integration of loss &amp; damage considerations into broader climate policies.</li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Interpret and apply key findings from UNFCCC decisions and IPCC science to advance the implementation of loss and damage response at the country level, ensuring that international guidelines are effectively translated into practical, localized strategies. </li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Utilise understanding of issues being faced at the national and regional level to provide framing for upcoming UNFCCC decisions and input into IPCC science assessments pertaining to limits to adaptation and loss and damage.</li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Lead the development of adaptation and loss and damage-focused concept notes for accessing international funding and contributed to project structuring, including understanding blended finance options for projects.</li></ul><div style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><strong>Stakeholder and Country Engagement</strong></span></div><ul><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Collaborate with international research counterparts and stakeholders to foster and promote understanding and action on adaptation and loss &amp; damage.</li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Design and facilitate workshops and training sessions to build capacity among vulnerable communities and policymakers, particularly in SIDS and other developing countries that are particularly vulnerable.</li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Develop and maintain a network within the adaptation and loss &amp; damage community, focusing on sharing best practices and knowledge exchange.</li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Represent the organization at public events, in media engagements, and on social media platforms.</li></ul><div style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><strong>Project Leadership</strong></span></div><ul><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Manage and oversee project deliverables, focusing on specific outcomes as outlined in strategic proposals.</li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Mentor and develop junior staff and researchers, guiding them in applied science and project execution to align with the organization’s strategic goals.</li><li style="text-align:justify;font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;">Support the identification and acquisition of new research project opportunities.</li></ul> Your profile<br> <h3 style="text-align:justify;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><strong>Education and Experience</strong></span></h3><ul><li style="font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;text-align:justify;">PhD in Environmental Science, Climate Science, Geography, or a related field.</li><li style="font-family:Tahoma , Geneva , sans-serif;font-size:12px;text-align:justify;">At least 5-10 years of experience in climate change adaptation, research, and policy analysis, with a focus on developing countries. Climate Analytics aims to close the loop between emissions pathways, global climate projections, climate impacts and the application of climate services at the regional to sub-national level. We are committed to supporting the achievement of the Paris Agreement’s 1.5 degree Celsius Long Term Temperature Goal and are striving to provide the science needed to drive climate ambition. Our team includes expertise in scenario research, global climate projections, climate action, impacts, adaptation, and loss and damage. We have a strong focus on stakeholder engagement, particularly with Small Island Developing States and Least Developed Countries. <br>The Science Team works on an exciting array of third-party-funded projects that contribute to the global discourse on climate science and policy. The Team also generates regionally specific scientific knowledge to make sure those working on the ground to implement climate mitigation, adaptation and loss and damage strategies have access to the best science.<br>Within Climate Analytics, the Science Team works closely with other teams, particularly the Implementation Strategies team, the Climate Policy and Diplomacy team, and with our regional offices in Africa, Australia/Pacific, the Caribbean, North America, and South Asia, ensuring the organisation's overall work is based on the best available science.<br>With our expanding regional presence through offices in the Caribbean, Africa, South Asia, the US and Australia-Pacific, there will be ample opportunities for you to work across and provide scientific leadership on loss and damage to various regions, including the most vulnerable countries. <br>We offer a dynamic working atmosphere in an international and interdisciplinary team with great connections in a network of partner institutes and stakeholders.
