We have a new opportunity for a skilled Researcher to be part of the Rice Biotechnology team and lead the delivery of key projects, in a role that combines project/experiment planning with laboratory based work.


Job Purpose:

The Rice Team’s mission is to deliver rice products that support a more stable and sustainable income for farmers in vulnerable communities by addressing the threat of pests and diseases and the environmental impact of rice cultivation. We deploy our core technology GEiGS® (genome-editing induced gene silencing) to develop disease-resistant plants and novel traits by using genome-editing tools to redirect RNA-silencing genes (e.g. miRNAs) to exogenous and endogenous targets.

We are looking for a skilled and highly motivated Researcher to join the team to lead the delivery of key rice product development projects. You will join a diverse team of skilled professionals and add your own experience to facilitate delivery of our projects. This role is ideally suited to a high-achieving postdoctoral scientist comfortable with working in a dynamic, fast changing environment, and able to communicate complex biological mechanisms, methods, analysis, and results to a broad range of stakeholders.


Responsibilities:

  • You will be the lead research scientist for Quality and Productivity projects – this will include you being at the lab bench when needed
  • You will manage external collaborative projects, working to a defined scientific plan and facilitating successful outcomes
  • You will manage projects with support platforms – with a focus on cloning, plant transformation, bioinformatics, and bioassays
  • You will work closely with our bioinformatics team to analyze RNA and siRNA sequencing data
  • You will design and develop research projects in collaboration with other scientists, project managers and other partners in diverse fields such as molecular biology, pathology, and gene editing technologies
  • You will be responsible for the planning, execution, analysis and reporting on project progress and experiments to the highest standards
  • You will run multiple projects in parallel ensuring timely completion of milestones
  • You will supervise and plan work for technicians, with the potential to line manage members of your technical team, depending on experience
  • You will present and report results to key stakeholders in the company, including senior management
  • You will train and mentor those around you, and proactively work to develop the Rice team

 

Requirements:

You will be an experienced Researcher with a strong background in plant biology and a desire to apply your expertise within crop biotechnology. 

 

Educational background

  • PhD in a relevant field + postdoc/industry experience

Technical competencies  

We are looking for expertise and transferable skills in a range of the following areas. You do not need to be an expert in all of the below areas to apply:

  • Analysis of large/complex data sets & statistics
  • Hands-on and demonstrable expertise in molecular & plant biology
  • Presentation of results and progress to a high standard
  • RNA biology experience will really help you excel in this role
