Boundless is seeking a Manager, Data Product & Procurement to drive the development of Boundless’ Industry Benchmark database and related products. The candidate will employ their skillset (research, analytics, product, and technical) to innovate, grow, and manage an environmental data and analytics platform that informs investments and business challenges associated with emerging clean technology and sustainability products and services. The candidate will play a leading role in the development of the database architecture, the creation of new data products, expanding the existing dataset, driving customer adoption, and developing visual and analytical frameworks that highlight the value of our data and insights.

The role involves collaborating with research analysts, technical advisors, software developers, and company leaders to document processes, design and manage our databases, improve data procurement, identify opportunities for process improvements, and to support data platform sales and marketing initiatives. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong familiarity with database creation and management, as well as emerging climate technologies such as energy storage, food & ag systems, low carbon fuels and circular economy technologies. The ideal candidate also understands how to help users interface with data and analytics to seamlessly transform a cumbersome and technical process into an intuitive and user-friendly product.

Boundless is an industry research and environmental impact analytics firm that provides objective and actionable information to move investment dollars more quickly toward clean technologies and climate solutions. Our science-based, data-driven approach is grounded in the proven methodology of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The scores and metrics derived are trustworthy and reliable because they are unbiased and validated by external industry and/or scientific experts. Boundless has the capabilities to perform rapid (and screening) LCA, LCA consistent with ISO 14040, and Scope 1,2,3 emissions inventories.

We are rapidly expanding as we extend our environmental impact analytics to a growing customer base of investors, companies, and large institutions. We are also developing online data platforms for our company and investor subscribers, to provide access to our climate impact scores, reports and analytics, and industry benchmarks. This is an opportunity to join an entrepreneurial team, focused on science-based environmental impact analysis and building out a best-in-class product.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The position will be the day-to-day lead for our database, data and analytics products and data procurement initiatives across all teams. It requires a strong ability for leading and participating in cross-functional work, in order to integrate and accelerate the productization of our research and analytics. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direction for the following responsibilities and to own their execution, in collaboration with technical partners and our research team.

  • Develop business intelligence and data analytics systems within Boundless, including designing and building dashboards and reports and developing and maintaining data models and data quality procedures to ensure accuracy and timeliness of data.

  • Be the database product owner responsible for database management, sourcing new external data, supporting marketing and business development efforts of the data product

  • Collect, analyze, and consolidate environmental and financial data from multiple sources, including industry and academic databases, research publications, Life Cycle and Techno-economic assessments, and external market data.
  • Implement data extraction and load key data from primary and secondary sources to create new relational databases within our overall database structure.

  • Develop and implement data analytics and collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.

  • Support the creation of documentation on database design, functionality and specification.
  • Develop and maintain processes to ensure data pipelines are in sync with source data and necessary alerts are in place to notify technology support of issues that could impact the insights generated.

  • Maintain data systems and databases in close relationship with internal and external technology stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports and provide recommendations for the leadership team that effectively communicate opportunities for improvements, patterns, and predictions using relevant data. Support leadership with broader data strategy recommendations.
  • Support CTO and technology development team in allocating resources for continued database design, implementation, buildout and maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven working experience as a Data Product or Procurement Manager, Data Analyst and/or Business Intelligence Analyst

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience, including developing B2B data product(s)

  • Advanced degree, in the physical sciences preferred

  • Experience working with SQL, R and/or Python

  • Experience developing data procurement pipelines and implementing data sourcing across a wide range of sources.
  • Proven ability to developing analytics dashboards and data visualization that meets business needs and are visually compelling

  • Deep understanding of data warehouse and database architecture

  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets

  • Strategic thinker able to drill down to understand ambiguity and complexity within scientific processes  

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Excellent communicator with solid written and verbal presentation skills, ability to communicate, present, and influence at all levels, including executive and C-level

  • Highly developed sense of ownership and accountability for work

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
