We are looking for a skilled researcher to lead the delivery of key technology projects within the GEiGS team in a role that combines project and experiment planning with laboratory-based work and people management.

Job Purpose

The GEiGS® (genome-editing induced gene silencing) team develops and deploys the core technology of Tropic Biosciences. We develop disease-resistant plants and novel traits by using genome-editing tools to redirect RNA-silencing genes (e.g. miRNAs) to novel targets, including pests and pathogens. The team works at the interface between molecular biology, plant biology and bioinformatics.

We are looking for an experienced molecular biologist to join the GEiGS® team to lead the delivery of key technology projects. You will join a team of skilled professionals and add your own experience, preferably in the field of RNA biology, to facilitate delivery on GEiGS® projects. This role is ideally suited to someone with a proven track record of delivery of biotechnology projects. You will love working as part of a team, but also have the motivation to independently drive your ideas forward and help develop our GEiGS® technology.

Responsibilities

  • You will be the lead Research Scientist for GEiGS® projects – this will include you being at the lab bench.
  • You will be responsible for the planning, execution, analysis (including statistics) and reporting on experiments to the highest standards.
  • You will manage external collaborative projects, working to a defined scientific plan and facilitating successful outcomes.
  • You will manage projects with service providers – with a focus on cloning, plant transformation and bioassays.
  • You will work closely with our bioinformatics team to analyse RNA and siRNA sequencing data.
  • You will develop new research projects, in particular novel bioassays to demonstrate our technology in different crop/pest systems.
  • You will manage and plan work for technicians.
  • You will present and report results to key stakeholders in the company, including senior management.
  • You will train and mentor those around you, and proactively work to develop the GEiGS® team.

Requirements

You will be an experienced researcher with a strong background in molecular biology and a desire to apply your expertise within plant biotechnology.

Educational background

  • PhD in a relevant field + postdoc/industry experience OR
  • A Bsc/Msc in a relevant field with a strong record of delivery within the biotechnology industry

Core competencies

  • Professional, effective communication
