Battery Modeling Engineer

WHO YOU ARE

You’re a collaborative modeling specialist with the vision and skills to define and build out Sila's battery modeling platforms.  Build our battery modeling roadmap and develop tools to provide key insights into both current performance and future potential. You’ll partner across several teams at Sila from early-stage development to commercialization in order to identify the right metrics, define clear targets, and build models that highlight opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Define and continually update Sila’s battery modeling strategy in collaboration with multiple teams from Research to Commercialization
• Develop and support cell design and performance models for both advanced and wider use
• Design, execute, and analyze experiments to inform model design and assumptions
• Discover, interpret, and communicate hard-to-see but significant trends and correlations
• Interface both internally across groups and externally with commercial partners to align models with real-world data and needs
• Invest in our values and vision and champion them as we grow

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

• Passion for approaching new challenges with curiosity and analytical thinking
• Knowledge of battery design and manufacturing, preferably lithium ion
• Experience creating models and supporting their use by collaborators
• Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills
• Experience with statistical data analysis and scripting for large data sets; programming skills are a plus
• At least a B.S. in engineering or physical science and at least 5 years of industry experience (fewer for candidates with an advanced degree)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, and safety glasses
• Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location
