Job Description

WHO YOU ARE

You’re an experienced, hands-on engineer with a desire to help deploy the next generation of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles. In your work at Sila, you’ll be the point person on one of our key customer programs, leading the effort to integrate our material into automotive cell designs and qualify automotive cells for commercialization. You’ll work across technical teams and with business partners to design experiments, analyze data, and create robust plans to meet our customer program milestones. You’ll be a team-oriented technical leader working to usher in the future of electric vehicles.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 

  • Design, carry out, and analyze experiments to test the performance of cells made using Sila’s materials against automotive cell qualification standards
  • Develop and execute project plans to qualify Sila material in automotive scale cell builds and analyze results to improve performance for future builds
  • Effectively communicate ideas, plans, and results externally to customers and partners and internally across diverse Sila teams
  • Collaboratively define and prioritize areas of exploration and development relating to commercial readiness of Sila materials
  • Invest in our company values and vision and champion them as we grow

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Well-organized approach to problem solving, driven by curiosity and attention to detail
  • Collaborative working and leadership style
  • Ability to carefully plan and execute multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience leading customer- or partner-facing relationships
  • Strong data-driven experimental design skills
  • Understanding of lab safety best practices; experience with lithium-ion batteries is a plus
  • At least a B.S. in engineering or science and 5+ years of industry experience (fewer for candidates with an advanced degree)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on an occasional basis
