Full time role
Hybrid · London, England, GB... more
HYRO is a 50:50 joint venture between funds managed by Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN) and RES UK & Ireland. HYRO is developing green hydrogen projects in GB to support commercial and industrial decarbonisation and has plans to deliver 700MWe of ready to build green hydrogen by 2030.  HYRO will be responsible for delivering the Projects from origination to ready to build including the development of the various commercial agreements e.g., offtaker and power supply agreements.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior-lead commercial project development professional to be an integral part of delivering HYRO’s business plan and ORI JV’s growth platform.

The role will be based between the Octopus Energy office in London and RES office in Kings Langley. While it is expected you carry out your work from your base, you should anticipate travelling in the UK for up to 50% of the time in some weeks and to destinations in Europe from time to time.

As the Senior-Lead Commercial Project Manager, you will co-lead projects – from origination through to ready to build – alongside your RES co-lead. You are expected to actively support and contribute to Octopus’ efforts and commitments to the JV. You will be employed by ORI JV Holdings 6 Limited (“ORI JV”)- the development entity established by ORIT and Sky.

In your projects you will be responsible for all the Octopus workstreams in the JV, which include but are not limited to:

  • All commercial aspects of projects – power supply agreements, hydrogen offtake agreements, low-carbon hydrogen agreements (administered by LCCC) – and the overall project management of the delivery, in coordination with your RES co-lead’s workstreams
  • Understanding the technical development aspects and procurement activities of the project and how they interact with and impact on commercial workscopes, timelines and successful project delivery
  • Management of all relevant stakeholders across the JV and commercial workscopes
  • Interfacing with government bodies as part of subsidy and policy discussions as well as supporting the Development Director in negotiations
  • In cooperation with the RES co-lead, develop project budgets – DEVEX and CAPEX – and be responsible for delivering against budget
  • Understanding of UK Hydrogen policy environment, including hydrogen derivative policies
  • Actively support offtaker and project origination work as well as market and competitor analyses.

What you bring to us:

  • An ability to clearly communicate, to work effectively in a team and a knack for communicating complex matters in lucid, succinct form
  • Excellent project management skills with a good understanding of the steps and governance involved in developing and delivering energy projects. An understanding of power markets is not crucial but an understanding of “molecules” sector, i.e., natural gas, hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives is highly desired
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating offtake contracts, contract structuring, price structuring and origination
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills with a focus on our internal and external customers
  • Specific experience in hydrogen is desirable but not essential. Knowledge of the hydrogen market and familiarity with different end-use cases is desirable
  • An entrepreneurial, roll-up-sleeves, can-do, delivery focused attitude, wrapped in a relaxed and approachable manner
  • Mentoring/coaching of less experience team members, continuous improvement and lessons learned focus.
