unu is an urban mobility brand based in Berlin. Our first product was the unu Scooter Classic, an electric scooter with portable batteries launched in 2014. Our products are sold both directly to consumers and business customers, making them accessible to everyone and resulting in fair prices by eluding dealership costs. In 2020, we launched the second generation of our scooter: The unu Scooter was designed in house and completely re-designed with our partners in Germany. The new scooter offers space for two people, as well as the largest storage space and one of the fastest acceleration values in the electric scooter segment.
After establishing a strong footprint in Germany, Austria and France, we are looking to consolidate our position as one of Europe's leading e-mobility brands. With strong creative, pragmatic and solution oriented team members, we are now looking for a Quality Manager (m/w/d) to join the team in unu’s headquarter in Berlin.
As Quality Manager you will lead a team and partner with the other functions of the supply chain division to create, drive, and promote a "Zero defect" mindset and assure a high quality of the product. You will report to the Director of Quality on the performance of the Product, Launch Phase and QMS (e.g., results of quality audits, corrective actions), including the need for improvement. You will provide problem-solving leadership including root cause identification, corrective action implementation, and prevention through the use of 8D methodology, 5 why process, etc. You will support purchasing and operations leadership with supplier development, quality assurance and supplier qualification initiatives. 

Your responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Quality Director, you will lead quality assurance and improvements in collaboration with the engineering functions in order to drive the overall zero defect philosophy & strategy. You will: Have full project responsibility for agreed quality activities and quality performance of the organisation (Design to Manufacturing)
  • Leads and facilitates quality activities, improvement initiatives, methods and problem solving efforts to meet organizational objectives and achieve KPIs such as PPM and COPQ to reduce overall costs
  • Develop the QM Dashboard as a new cross functional decision platform (TOP 5)
  • Support the cross-functional executive quality council (Product Safety Committee)
  • Maintains project responsibility for the organizations Quality Management
  • Maintains preventive action system for internal and external issues
  • Establishing a new Product Audit in Design/Engineering and Manufacturing site which supports reaching the product launch quality and maturity level
  • Responsible for processing and coordinating escalated complaints and initiating necessary analyses and tests to conduct the root cause analysis in cross-functional teams. Creation of 8-D reports and maintenance of the knowledge base
  • Work closely with Engineering and Procurement to ensure all purchased products are tested before receipt, conform to specifications and compliant to regulations
  • Improve supplier quality through monthly metrics, supplier quarterly business reviews and comprehensive supplier audits
  • Actively facilitate and participate in improvement of new product development processes (NPI), design for overall quality, reliability and test initiatives. Contribution and documentation of P-FMEA
  • Interact with manufacturing, engineering, product management and customer service team to ensure quality and reliability requirements are well defined, understood, incorporated and met, and interact with customers and service partners when needed
  • As part of your auditing activities you will conduct internal audits and supplier audits.

What you bring

  • A relevant degree in any engineering discipline, preferable with a focus on quality assurance, project management and process development
  • Proven experience in driving a quality department or -team within a company with international background (5 years +)
  • Proven experience in establishment of quality processes in mid-size organisation preferable in the automotive- or transportation industry
  • Experience in an international context ideally with Asia/China. Confronted with various perspectives and perception of what quality assurance is
  • Experienced in and being a personality who drives “quality thinking” not only in the quality department but companywide
  • Self-confident and self-driven personality with a clear focus on efficient and solution-oriented acting towards customers and suppliers
  • Knowledgeable on automotive safety and quality management systems (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, etc.)
  • Great communication skills - you can communicate with anyone, within or outside of unu
  • A real interest in chasing operational excellence and zero defect philosophy
  • Fluency in English, German or an other European language is plus
  • Lean six sigma training/certification is a plus
