ERM is seeking a motivated Managing Technical Consultant, Civil Engineer with a focus on site civil design and construction in the Mid-Atlantic area. In this role, you will work closely with experienced Project Managers, Engineers and Scientists on the planning, design, permitting and implementation of diverse and complex engineering assignments. You will be involved in managing and supporting multi-discipline teams working in the renewable energy and power sectors. Projects will include overseeing the development of construction drawings, technical specifications, contract documents, permit applications and calculations for projects involving renewable energy system components, including photovoltaic solar technology, battery energy storage systems, electrical substations, wind turbines and electric transmission and distribution facilities. Staff management, project controls and management support for significant consulting and construction projects, including scheduling, labor resourcing, and cost estimating, will be a component of this position. Diverse and broad-based experiences, both in office and field settings, should be anticipated.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare site civil designs, including earthwork and site grading, access roads, erosion and sediment control and stormwater management.

  • Prepare application packages for land disturbance permits, construction stormwater permits and related construction permits. Support preparation of land use permit applications.

  • Evaluate field data, perform calculations, prepare engineering reports, cost estimates, and comprehensive schedules and develop progress-tracking reports.

  • Conduct field investigations, construction oversight and quality assurance activities and provide field exploration support as needed for design parameter development, and during construction for oversight and Construction Quality Assurance purposes.

  • Prepare technical proposals and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads. Assist clients in developing strategies and preparing designs for proposed facilities, and prepare project work scopes, schedules and budgets.

  • Provide technical expertise to navigate complex technical/regulatory issues in the renewable energy and power sectors.

  • Participate in project teams and independently on a global platform in varying settings that demand new and creative solutions.

  • Interact with scientists in the site investigation, risk management, and planning disciplines as integrated teams as well as engineers in design and construction.

  • Assume lead roles in a “center-of-excellence” engineering team to formulate creative designs and oversee implementation.

  • Work with other ERM resources to deepen relationships with ERM key clients and establish new client relationships that result in significant net revenue growth.

  • Lead, manage performance, hire and retain, inspire and mentor personnel for overall success of the technical team.

  • Appropriately delegate project assignments to project teams and mentor junior staff.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. / M.S. in Civil Engineering preferred, with a focus on site civil, geotechnical and structural applications.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in-place or eligible.

  • 4+ years (7+ preferred) technical experience in site civil design. Candidates with significantly more experience or high performing candidates with less experience are encouraged to apply as multiple positions are available.

  • Experience with Microsoft Project resourcing and scheduling, AutoCAD/Civil3D-based design, GIS and construction management skill sets.

  • Advanced knowledge of the local regulatory climate, with proven negotiation skills with state and local regulators.

  • Strong computer skills and proficient with productivity software (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Demonstrated ability to research and prepare concise and accurate technical documents, with a keen attention to detail.

  • Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking, and “people” skills.

  • Proven business development experience for large programs/contracts and client relationships supported by repeat business, including established contacts.

  • Recognized technical expertise by and established reputation in the local marketplace.

  • Well-developed team building and influencing skills; unquestioned integrity; and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs and challenges.

  • Positive outlook, collaborative, and driven by the success of ERM as a global company.

  • Ability and willingness to travel.

For the Managing Technical Consultant, Civil Engineer (Senior Level) position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $90,806 – $106,894 (USD).  An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.  We also may have instances where compensation may be outside of the range, based on the factors noted above.  This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
