Sodium-Ion is cheap, readily available and safe, making it the leading contender in a rapidly evolving market.

Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world-class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, SunPower, Fluence, and Enovix. We are backed by strategic investment and product partners such as TDK Ventures and Eclipse Ventures.

We are a team of engineers, operators, entrepreneurs, and partners driven by a shared ambition to set the new performance standard for renewable energy and grid resilience.

About the Job:

Peak Energy is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team and work on the development of our gigawatt scale battery electrical and controls systems. This role will provide the design direction, implementation and testing of Peak’s embedded systems design and will work with the other design and manufacturing teams along with external partners to provide design direction and engineering implementation leadership. This person is both a leader and a doer.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as technical expert for Peak’s HV ESS embedded software and associated components, from early architecture through continuous improvement.
  • Lead both internal development and work with suppliers on requirements, design decisions and interfaces in areas like BMS, power electronics and supervisory control.
  • Play a key role in developing and managing Peak’s electrical systems sourcing strategy, balancing short and long term goals.
  • Define and spearhead selection and development of software tools, infrastructure and best practices for a growing team.
  • Support testing, integration and validation of Peak products.
  • Develop and manage software requirements.
  • Spearhead growth of the team and mentor more junior members in the greater organization.
  • Drive and participate in a culture of rapid development and testing.
  • A great team spirit and get-it-done attitude. No job is too big or too small.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • 3-10+ years of professional engineering experience.
  • Experience writing firmware for RTOS-based real-time embedded systems.
  • Experience writing software for Linux and embedded Linux systems.
  • Experience writing Python for laboratory experiments and prototypes.
  • A preference for a debugger over print statements.
  • A preference for using an RTOS over bare metal solutions.
  • A bias to using an oscilloscope or other test equipment to verify your work.
  • Have shipped at least one commercial or industrial product.
  • Experience bringing battery management or power conversion systems into production.
  • Familiarity with high-voltage systems.
  • Experience with utility-scale systems.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing BMS and EMS, power electronics and supervisory control systems.
  • Utility-scale energy storage systems experience.
