Job Description

As Thermal Integration Engineer at Zoox, you will be responsible for defining and integrating the systems which drive thermal system performance. In this highly cross-functional role, you will develop requirements, solve challenging thermal problems, create and test prototypes, and implement and test solutions on autonomous Zoox robots. You will analyze complex data sets and make design recommendations. You will work with a high degree of support but independence and will need to drive work of internal and external collaborators. Responsibilities

  • Work with attribute leads, other integration engineers and hardware owners to develop word class autonomous vehicle thermal system
  • Analyze physical and simulated test results and provide design recommendations to improve and optimize autonomous vehicle thermal system performance
  • Work closely with HVAC integration engineers and hardware engineers to assure the thermal needs of the cabin and cooled components are met
  • Work closely with thermal controls and firmware teams to develop robust and effective thermal controls
  • Lead evaluations on Zoox robots and test benches both locally and remotely

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience using 1D simulation tools
  • Experience developing and integrating thermal systems into vehicle architectures
  • Experience developing solutions for cooling and heating motors, batteries, occupied spaces and electronics
  • Fundamental understanding of thermodynamics and heat-transfer principles
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive integration, mechanical design or controls development
  • BS or higher in Mechanical, Controls or Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with model development and data analysis in Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience with CFD tools
