Responsibilities

As Senior Commercial and Strategy Analyst, Grid-Scale Applications you will support, and co-lead Mainspring growth strategies and activities in order to promote deployment of grid-scale applications for our linear generator technology and influence strategies for winning new business. You will provide critical analytical inputs for identification and development of high-quality project pipelines and shape solution offerings for Mainspring’s customers. A successful candidate in this role will draw from previous commercial analysis, strategy, energy business intelligence, or business development experience, be proficient in financial modeling and power market analysis/modeling, be well-versed in project management, and be excited to create value both as a member of a team and as an individual contributor. Additionally, the selected candidate will:

  • Lead Mainspring’s front-of-the-meter commercial analytics, power market fundamentals analysis and revenue modeling efforts

  • Build and maintain dispatch and optimization models for different ISOs/RTOs for MSE technology; model value-stacking of energy, capacity, ancillary and other monetizable services across different US markets

  • Support grid-scale origination with business case evaluation (wholesale energy/AS/capacity revenue modeling)

  • Propose commercial or offtake structures/structured products leveraging existing legislative, statutory, or market rules and constructs,

  • Work closely with the business development, product, policy, and regulatory affairs teams to continue shaping and executing on Mainspring’s business strategy in North America, including defining target markets and customers, solutions, value proposition incl. pricing and revenue models

  • Model competitiveness of MSE tech with other power generation technologies

  • Support new business and product development efforts incl. development of new business cases, documentation of product needs, issues, and improvements

  • Assist with development and management of business opportunities including analysis of customer needs, financial modeling, proposal writing, pricing strategies, deal structuring, etc.

  • Establish relationships with industry data providers, service vendors, and consultants

  • Analyze current market trends, regulations, economic drivers, and technology benchmarks to inform Mainspring’s business plan and offer development

This role will report to Director of Business Development, Grid-Scale Applications

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in economics, engineering, business required; advanced STEM or business degree (e.g. MBA) preferred

  • 5-8 years of professional experience in project development role or technology commercialization role in the electric power and infrastructure industries,

  • Strong interdisciplinary background,

  • Proven track record and experience with solving complex issues in a creative and collaborative manner,

  • Strong critical thinking and issue prioritization skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills,

  • In-depth understanding of the US electric power industry,

  • Curious and excited to learn and expand their horizons in the energy space, from the market, our customers and other team members and their areas of expertise,

  • Passionate about the energy systems, the energy transition, and development and commercialization of disruptive energy technologies

The Bay Area salary for this role is $115k-$130k base + bonus + pre-IPO stock options + benefits. This position can be remote. The salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions based on employee location as well as the experience of the employee.
