Job Description

Description

Otherlab is seeking a full-time electrical engineer to join our team at our facilities in San Francisco. This person should have experience in Li-ion batteries, PCB design, BMS functionality and design, and power electronics. Ideally, this person has worked with CAD programs and is capable of basic CAD design. The person hired for this role will be working directly on Otherlab’s battery-integrated appliances project. This individual will work with an assigned team to design electronic components and supporting test infrastructure. In addition to system and component-level design, this role will involve fabrication, testing, analysis, and system iteration based on test results.

Requirements

The ideal candidate can take a project from start to finish, taking initial back-of-napkin designs and turning them into tangible, functional, finished products. This engineer has an array of experience, including robotics, electronics, mechanical, manufacturing, and fabrication; design-and-build is what we do at Otherlab. You will have access to a 2500 sq. ft. modern prototyping shop equipped with a waterjet cutter, high-power laser cutter, 3-axis mill, CNC table router, and any of the general shop tools you could need.

  • BS or higher in engineering, physics, or a related field with 3+ years of experience designing and testing hardware
  • Strong skills in electrical engineering design, including a demonstrated ability to go from design to functional prototype quickly and with minimal supervision
  • Hands-on experience in bringing up and debugging prototypes, along with functional manufacturing verification
  • Strong CAD skills (EE CAD agnostic, but Solidworks preferred for ME)
  • Ability to speak physics and engineering fluently and communicate effectively across disciplines
  • Ability to relocate to work at the Otherlab San Francisco office
  • Ability to work well in small teams
  • US Citizen or permanent resident (This is a strict requirement)

Desired Qualifications:

  • MS degree or higher
  • 4+ years of experience designing, testing, and fabricating electrical hardware
